Sorry Per, you're very logical and all, but income tax returns are not something a government "does". It's something a private individual does. Hence Big Brotherish.
The government knows your taxes in every country. The difference is here you can check that your neighbour is not getting any special favours you don’t. It’s not that the government gets to know more, it’s that the private citizen has a right to get a copy of anything sent, produced or received by the government and its various agencies.
It’s not Big Brother watching you, but you keeping an eye on Big Brother.
Likewise, all the international media upset about no lockdown in Sweden.... but it was never even in our tool box!
Freedom of movement is in our constitution, and the government can only restrict it during war times.
Since there is currently no war, a lockdown imposed by the government would have been ruled unconstitutional and struck down by the courts. What the government has done instead is issue recommendations on social distancing and avoiding travel. Since Swedes in general have a pretty high level of trust in the government, most people follow these recommendations, so it’s almost like a lockdown, except you can not be arrested or fined for not following recommendations, so it is all left to the discretion of each individual.
Guess that’s why the libertarians suddenly love us, while proponents of strong government feel disgusted.
