I think that's consensus. I don't think anybody is projecting them as anything more than good middle-6 forwards. Still good third lines are key to playoff fortunes down the road.

That didn't take long
Upon further review of video evidence, prosecutors believe that McKenna "did not act with the intent to cause serious bodily harm nor did he recklessly act with extreme indifference to the value of human life."

Not uncommon to charge high, review more evidence (or have additional input from others), adjust charges. (Also not uncommon but I think unseemly to overcharge knowing you'll never get a conviction for the most serious....). Credit to the prosecutor for not just using the felony charge as leverage.

Honestly I don't see this adversely affecting his draft status at all. I mean sure, a team is going to want to do some due diligence about whether this is part of a pattern, and that diligence may turn up things that this combines with to create more serious concerns (after all, you want your players out of jail, not breaking their hands, etc., being in control of a temper such that pests won't take you off your game). But standing on its own, and based on the initial reports of how this came about and the prosecution's dismissal of the most serious charge and confirmation only two punches were thrown, it doesn't seem to be a situation that evinces a bad character, and quite possibly shows the opposite and is the kind of character who can succeed in a physical, team-orientated business.

His stock rises in my books.

More character than anything on our current team.

Yeah, this does not change my opinion of him. If I were the Canucks, I might still draft Verhoeff instead but this case would not be the sole reason why.

I am sure he and is family are relieved. Hopefully he learns a valuable lesson and how fragile his future career goals can be. He can’t be goaded into this shit no matter how honourable his intentions. He is still very young and no doubt will mature.

From a hockey perspective teams will do their due diligence to make sure this isn’t the norm from him. Hopefully he is even more motivated on the ice.

Perhaps a civil suit follows and it sounds like there will be heavy mitigation he can rely upon to help keep damages down.

I don’t know why but I felt a tremendous amount of relief for him.

Rumours flying that as soon as Mckenna heard he wasn’t being charged he went to the court house and beat the piss out of the district attorney figuring that could get him the twenty years he was after to avoid being drafted by the Canucks.
