The Pettersson/Carolina trade rumours had two parts to it. It was revisited later during the Rantanen fiasco. They had tried to work out a deal once before that. The original one had more legs to it, believed we turned it down. They tried to move him there later during the Rantanen trade but Carolina said “no dice”. Petey’s value was dog shit at that point.

Yes, teams who lead the league in man games lost to injury end up 3 1/2 wins out of a playoff position after 30 games....

How is Florida doing without Barkov (done for the season and never played a game this season) and Tkachuk, who hasn’t played this season? They are 18th overall in the league not 32nd like us.

Florida is a better team than the Canucks and playing in the East but are currently out of a playoff spot even after winning their last 3 games...

Florida has played the entire season without their two best players, who arguably are in the top 10’of the best forwards in the league. How would the Canucks fair without having the services of their best two players this season - Pettersson and Hughes? Would they be worst than 32nd overall in the league? Well, can’t get much worse than that, obviously, but certainly the affect of their absence would be felt in the win/loss column.

Not disagreeing with you, just pointing out that while Florida is a much better team than Vancouver the loss of 2 of their better players has them in danger of missing the playoffs...

It is interesting that the reigning back to back Cup winners doesn't have a Quinn Hughes type of player on their backend which is my way of talking myself into believing that the loss of Hughes might be the best thing for the team going forward, assuming that they nail the trade...

I also think the Canucks could come out of this well if, as you said, ‘they nail the trade.’ However, past performance of this management group and ownership does not inspire much confidence with the fan base.

If they want to maximize their return value they have to do it before this years trade deadline giving interested teams almost two post seasons of certainty with Hughes and more runway in convincing him to sign. It also gives would be suitors an opportunity to flip him at next season’s deadline while recouping some assets lost to Vancouver if they can’t convince him to sign.

We disagree on that, but in any transaction leverage and market dictates outcomes...

The Canucks have the leverage today with Hughes being under contract until the 27/28 season and having no trade protection...

The market demand includes multiple teams....

On the flip side, the salary cap is expected to be in excess of $115 million in 2027/28 which means Hughes will be in for a very big payday which means that bidding teams will have to have the players and draft capital the Canucks desire along with a cap situation which can handle the new Hughes contract which might elimate some of the bidding teams.....

Teams like the Devils are interesting in that they have a roster which is starting to age out of its prime and have a big contract renewal due in 27/28 of their own with Hischier which suggests that they need to s*it or get off the pot rather than waiting and hoping that Hughes is a UFA in 27...

100% agree, which is why I have resigned itself to a Hughes trade this season. Now is the time to pull the trigger on it.

Canucks have all the leverage at this time.

I heard the Canucks still haven't given the players rings for their Calder Cup win. Is there a back story here? Like come on Fredo. At least get Del Griffith on the job and hook these kids ip with some rings.

Abbotsford is a great barn yet they've left the team out to dry this year. I went out twice ksst year uncluding seeing a game in the finals. It was a hoot. Don't neglect the city. They love that team.
