Ian Cole to Chicago, damn
I’d prefer Luke Schenn.
Similar players, but Luke showed more leadership when they were both here (at different times respectively), and Schenn also has strong ties to BC and never wanted to leave Vancouver in the first place.
Edit: Shoulda read further ahead before replying.
I’m actually ecstatic about this signing (insomuch as one can be for a depth player addition).

Gotta say, I like the move. It's a bit rich, but you have to adjust that number to the increasing cap and they absolutely need a physical RD capable of top 4 minutes. Its a half a percent more against the cap than Tyler Myers' when he signed the 5 by 6 in Vancouver (and unknown to the Canucks at the time, the Cap really didn't go up over the first 4 years of that deal). Over the course of the Trouba contract, it will likely have a similar cap hit. Is Trouba from age 32-35 going to provide better value than Myers from age 29-32? The player is better, but its all about health and when the age decline starts.

I don't understand the Leaves. Bob is 40. He was terrible last year. There might be a correlation.

Again agree...(this shit has to stop

) ... plus he's an animal and will hurt people which helps their abundance of talent play bigger.
Maybe he can teach a bit of Prongerish snarl to Verhoeff.

Hischier making EP40 more palatable?
Byram for $12.5m is nuts, hopefully he can keep his head on straight.
Canucks signings are fine, don't need any term or big value (not that anyone wanting either are signing here this year).

Explaining further for those less in touch with their team.
They just traded Woll with 6-7 D man Benoit (that's where he fits in the lineup, not his height). He's been of questionable health, but has generally performed well outside of the "mailing it in" period of last season. Of average starter quality, but injuries require a decent back up or better yet, a rotation. Which they have -- Stolarz.
They got a third pairing D in the deal with potential 4-5 or (long shot top 4) upside (and press box downside), a third, and what looked like the emergency goalie you could stash in the AHL (but the Senators gave up a 5th for). So you can look at it like Woll and a stay at home third pairing D with no upside for a puck moving third pairing D with a little upside, a 3rd, and a 5th.
Now the obvious reason for the move wasn't that Woll had a bad month. It was that Hildeby is a year younger and played pretty well. His numbers had him among the better goalies in the league, and while that's not an immediate expectation, its reasonable to think he'd provide similar-to-Woll quality and has the potential for more. A tandem of the present, a starter of the future.
By bringing in Bob, they add $7M to their cap (and twice what Woll was making) for an expected performance that's really not likely (IMO) to be the best of Bob. Could be, but its really not that likely. Signing a surer thing goalie ends when that goalie is 40.
So they've got the log jam again. And not obviously better goaltending.
I assume Stolarz is getting moved. And that will make it make sense?
