One would think for an event of this size and stature that all the referees and players would have been pre-cleared well in advance of travel. Seems incredibly disorganized to grant visas and then on arrival say sorry we're taking it back.

Yeah, there is something odd about it, players, managers refs, organizers would have all had their documentation in months ago, but new things could crop up, new organizations added to terror lists...who knows.

That. Disorganization, arbitrariness and paranoia.
Not only the US, it's all over the world, more or less.

A Trump administration source said: "This individual was seeking admission to the United States. Upon further inspection by CBP [Custom and Border Protection], derogatory information, including association with suspected members of terror organisations, was discovered making the traveller ineligible for admission to the United States under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA).
I guess he forgot to delete his Facebook profile.

Does not seem hard to do, but then who knows what the hell Trump will do tomorrow to change the rules.

Canada denies entry to Ghanian midfielder Thomas Partey who is charged, not convicted of rape and sexual assault.

...but if he were associated with terrorists...

Fun game to watch. Canada were basically the better team, but couldn’t finish. And Bosnia are no slouches. They defend well and they are great at corner kicks and such situations. Remember they eliminated Italy to get here.

But Canada played well. I’m sure you’ll beat Qatar, and hopefully you can get points against Switzerland as well. They are a solid team, but so boring to watch. I’ll be rooting for you guys.

UEFA has named Omar Artan to referee the Super Cup game between Aston Villa and PSG.
It’s not the World Cup, but it’s a pretty big international game. And a statement.

That's always been a problem for Canada when the games count... no finish. On their club teams, they have better teammates to play with. But on the national team, there isn't really a guy or guys who can control and break down the game consistently.

The wings have greatly improved over the years, speed and skilled helping us rise in FIFA standings. The strikers are adequate(?). The goaltending is above average. The greatest weaknesses have always been the lack of a good attacking midfield/general and the back defenders who get easily exploited by even lower teams.

Yeah, the Bosnians are not a bad team. They are big and bullied Canada in the box, shutting it down like a young Edler did <sarcasm>

Maybe Hank Sedin's kid will be the next Alphonso Davies on the world stage. Hope more kids here can get the type of development that European, South American and others get.

We've been so historically bad that it's pretty cool to see Canada soccer and basketball being able to now compete... at least against the regional powers in the Americas. Jesse Marsch has been very good for this program.

You are lucky to have had dynamic and entertaining guys like Zlatan to cheer for. An all-time great.
