Re: GDT - Boouns at Canucks, 7pm PST, SNP, CBC(?)

Yep, glad I'm not paying to see this one.

A friend of mine was surprised when I said I can't get my head around people paying thousands per ticket to see Taylor Swift..... they were doubly surprised when I said I wouldn't pay even $1K to go see the Canucks in game 7 of the Cup Final.....and tonight (and 2011) is why.
Not sure what to say Jello.JelloPuddingPop wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 8:43 pm
I'm not sure why all the blame is in the player for accepting a contract. Why does what he makes put pressure on him? Shouldn't it be on the GM, Owner?
Yeah, I guess I get your drift but EP is not JT Miller.JelloPuddingPop wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 8:43 pm Why not get on Miller for not "Sucking it Up" - wasn't he paid during his leave? Literally taking money for doing nothing.
It's not about the contract, it's about his performance.
I'm not sure what this has to do with it other than us enabling his poor performance.JelloPuddingPop wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 8:43 pm Where is Joshua? How well has additions on D been? Is Silvos actually a goalie? The Canucks record isn't on Petey.

5th highest paid player in the league, he and his agent wanted the juice, they got it in spades, he's not handling his end of the bargain at all.

If we're choosing one I've gotta think most fans are running with #9.
It's not about the contract, it's about his performance.
You mentioned a point a game.
As Megs said...45th in league scoring when he's paid to be a difference maker a la Kucherov Pasternak et al.
I mean at this point he's not even close to Rantanen as a player.
Is he even a top 20 player in the game at this stage in his career?
Haven't really dived into that but surely it is debate worthy.
Dudes gotta pick his shit up.

You make the big bucks you're supposed to be THE game changer.
He's simply not.
Last year there was talk of EP for Necas and Kotkaniemi.
Not many people would trade Necas straight across for EP at this point.
This isn't about the contract at all for me Jello.
I'm on record here from day 1 doubting this player.
As I've always said, I really hope he proves me wrong.
But when the going gets tough....you know the rest.
...and he isn't.
I get that Cap space and allocation is important. My question or concern is - who does Van get to replace him. If we can move him for a bag of pucks as all he seems to be worth, who does you replace him with. Who is available that is a point a game player entering his prime?Megaterio Llamas wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 10:05 pm Unless he can be all world he's just making way too much money. And by taking all that cap, he hurts the team. If he was making three million a year less I don't think people would be complaining.
Does he have the same agent as Nylander by chance?
He's stayin' JP. That's the quintessential anchor contract right there. Peter is a Canucks lifer.JelloPuddingPop wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 10:21 pmI get that Cap space and allocation is important. Offer Edm Lekkermaki for McDavid? Or Willander for Sid? Or maybe Sasson for Makar?
Or a Sea of Grandlunds making 2mil a year each?
Why the sarcasm?JelloPuddingPop wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 10:21 pm Offer Edm Lekkermaki for McDavid? Or Willander for Sid? Or maybe Sasson for Makar?

Nailed it.Carl Yagro wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 10:27 pm The 5th highest player in the league is the 3rd most impactful offensive play driver on his own team. The past playoffs showed how your best players need to perform and we saw better from our 3rd liners.
There have been players here playing with broken bones, torn muscles, ligaments who've shown better.
Why is PPG the only criteria? Why can't the highest paid be criticized? There are Canucks who've done more who still get criticized to this day. Guys who captained the team to the 7th game and did his utmost to bring home the cup. Media were still calling future HOFs "sisters" in their prime when their teams were the best in franchise history. PPG captains are still known as chokers. Media has been trying to trade the 2nd best PPG guy in team history for over 2 seasons, even after he just signed a new long-term contract. Now they're bringing it up again because of not quite getting along with some teammates? Shit, we praised the hell out of Bure and Bertuzzi for the same attitude. Perform and nobody cares.
The bottom-line is he isn't impacting the results on a nightly basis as the defacto #1 player on the team as he needs to be, as his compensation would suggest. This is the point some posters here are making. It may be unfair, but that's what he signed (up) for.
Good post. Most of the same mouth breathers didn't utter a peep when Jay Beagle stole 2/3 of his salary or Antoine Roussel or Brandon Sutter, or heaven forbid the Air Thief. Peterson is probably a 9 million dollar player at this point. Point a game solid defensive guy. He's clearly physically and mentally nicked up. If they bitched about the slugs getting paid 3-6 million over 3- 6 years, you might take their concerns seriously.JelloPuddingPop wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 8:43 pmI'm not sure why all the blame is in the player for accepting a contract. He is basically a point per game this year, on a team that has been decimated by injury.
Why not get on Miller for not "Sucking it Up" - wasn't he paid during his leave? Literally taking money for doing nothing.
This contract shit gets old.
Where is Joshua? How well has additions on D been? Is Silvos actually a goalie? The Canucks record isn't on Petey.
