Team's need spark from their top guys on nights like tonight,and while he's not the only "top guy", he's making $3.6M more than the next highest paid guy, who btw is doing more driving than him on most nights.

I think a successful knee surgery (assuming one is indicated) and a long and careful rehab could be the best thing for Pettersson's total career output.

Trouble for the Canucks, though, is that by the time he gets back, this window -- if it ever really was a window -- might well be closed. At that point (3 seasons out -- two to recover and one to prove he'd recovered) they'd be looking to trade him and Hughes to jumpstart the next rebuild.
