At first when the Huggy trade happened it didn't seem like we made out with very much. Having sat back for a few days, it has grown on me a bit. Been hearing good things about Buium. Sounds like he was key to our mgmt to make the deal. He probably will never be as good as Huggy, but if he can become like a Werenski/C.Hutson calibre player, it will be great trade. He basically projects like one of those American prep school kids taking the NHL by storm, great skaters and high skill. Rossi is ok, not sure we need another small, dinky, skilled guy, but at least he can play centre. He'll easily be our most skilled C after EP40. It was nice getting a 1st in the deal, albeit a late one. Don't expect much out of Ohgren, but give him a chance, u never know. He was also a former 1st rounder.

Man, gotta say though, with Huggy gone, it pretty much means the end of this core for this team. Couple yrs ago when we had that core of Huggy, Petey, Brock, JT, Demmer, I thought this core would make for the best ever Nucks team. I thought this core would be better than 94 & 2011 teams. The only thing was JT was on the older side.

If any team would ever bring Lord Stanley to Vancouver, I thought those guys would be it. With only 2 playoff appearances from that core, it has to be the most disappointing Nucks team ever. So much potential, but so much dysfunction and lack of success as well.

Very few players are on the same talent level as Hughes, nobody on this team was/is. When you pan the league you have the Crosby, MacKinnon, McDavid, realm. Then the tier that includes Matthews, Draisaitl, Kucherov, Kaprizov, Hughes, and Makar.....probably a few others, but not many. Quinn and Makar are the best two defensemen in the game right now, both of them are top-10 players, and I'd give Hughes the edge because he has had to drive his team without a guy like MacKinnon helping him the way he has Makar.

Buium has the college resume that says he should be a top-pairing guy.

Rossi may be short in stature, but he's built like a brick shit-house. He's an inch shorter than Garland, but listed at nearly 20 pounds heavier.

The Canucks essentially got 4 first round picks for Hughes.

This core was toast the minute they traded Horvat and went with JT and EP as the top-6 pivots. Nobody could see it then, but hindsight is 20/20. They needed to decide at that point between Pettersson and Miller because it was apparently recognized at the time that those two guys were never going to get along. When it came to a head and Miller was traded the core was already poisoned. I do think it could have been salvaged if Pettersson had been the one dealt.....the stories of the friendship between Miller, Boeser, Hughes, Myers, and Garland, lead me to think that they were the nucleus that the rest of the team revolved around, and Pettersson was an ionized/ionizing particle. But what's done is done.

As Boeser, Garland, and Myers, are not core players in terms of talent, they don't necessarily have to be jettisoned, but Pettersson should be in order to complete the purge.

Are we setting ourselves up for disappointment with over praising Buium? I worry we are expecting too much out of the kid, he’s alright.

Smart guy like that, playing with McKenna on one wing and Nikita Klepov on the other - and he will put up points.

Rossi is a good hockey player, can skate, sees the ice well and is fit as fuck.

Let's give him the season and some talent before we crucify him like Canuck fans tend to do.

I'd like to see him with Lekk and Ohgren for a bit

As far as Buium goes...he just turned 20 ffs.

Everyone who has scouted or been in close proximity to him says GREAT things about the kid and his future.

He has dominated at every level.

At first I thought these guys were all small and and soft. That has proven to be wrong.

Rossi has great instincts, seems to know where its going before anyone else, skates very well...lots to like there.

Plavsic was a defenseman…..so I’m thinking more a Craig Coxe/Doug Wickenheiser.

Ohgren is showing something I haven’t seen in many Swedes. It’s a shame I’ll have to wait a few seasons to see what he can do in the playoffs to really make up my mind.

Nothing wrong with a BMo type center if you have dominant puck-hogging play-driving winger(s) like our own WCE, Boldy Kaprizov, Kucherov, Pat Kane, Marner, etc. In fact, you want that type of center who is still offensively very good but willing and capable of the dirty work. Toews is another.

Fans keep thinking it's an ASG, but there's only so much puck to go around. It just doesn't work long term.

Remember when the twins took over? Everyone was salivating over Naslund as their RW. Guess what? Naslund was crying like a baby when he could no longer pound the puck into the ice or run the half-boards. He had to find open spots for Sedin passes which was not his game at all.

As I said, no slight intended towards BMo (or Rossi)…..for the reasons you state.
