Not sure how it works in Canada, but around here I don't think there is a clear link between Antifa and the opera.

Because Greta has forbidden her to travel by airplane, Malena now performs in musicals in Stockholm instead.

Her father, Svante Thunberg, is an actor, who apart from touring with Riksteatern, a national theatre company, is known from television, eg his role in Skärgårdsdoktern (The doctor of the archipelago). In recent years he has mainly worked as Malena's manager and producer, in order to have more time for his family.

Both daughters have neurological issues; Greta is diagnosed with Asperger's and her younger sister has ADHD and OCD, so they can be a bit of a handful.

They have not really encouraged Greta to do what she does, but there is a backstory. At age 11 Greta stopped eating, stopped talking and would not get out of bed. She was worried about climate change and saw no point in living. The parents had to focus on just trying to get her to survive. As she got better and started talking again, they managed to convince her that instead of just giving up, she should try to make a difference.
Having Asperger, she obviously took that really seriously.

Her parents have never approved of her skipping school, but they respect what she is trying to do.
There were actually several kids that talked about doing the school strike thing, but everyone bailed, except Greta, so for the first few weeks she sat alone outside the Swedsih parliament, Then as media started covering it, more kids showed up.

The fact that her parents are locally famous probably helped her getting headlines in Swedish media early on, but then the thing just snowballed.

Both Malena and Svante care about environmental issues but are nowhere near as committed as Greta.
They are just happy she's found a hobby that gets her out of bed in the morning!

So where would a 16 year old handicapper from small town sweden acquire an "Antifa Allstars" t-shirt anyways?

I don’t know what kind of social media she had access to.
She was taught about climate change at school. It’s part of the science curriculum.
And it’s also on the news like all the time.

Also, she’s not a regular teen. She’s a teen with asperger.
Think Sheldon, Spock, Bones. The Good Doctor. But a teenager.

On the other hand teens have always tended to have extreme feelings and believe that everything is a life or death matter.

So it makes perfect sense that a teenager who learns about climate change feels it is necessary to act now.
And it’s not just Greta. There are millions of them. She just happens to be the one media focuses on.

She’s a 16-yo kid that feels strongly about the environment. Good for her.
