We better jump now while there is still room, before the band-wagon bridge jumpers fill the river with their bloated corpses.

Detroit announces today that they will not offer new contract to Eric Cole.
LA confirms that they have spoken to several teams about forward Mike Richards. Looking for a creative solution.
Glendale city council to meet today to discuss terminating Coyotes lease.

Buffalo considering a Hodgson buy out. Have found no takers on the trade market given his cap. I expect some team that needs to reach to cap floor, Like Arizona maybe, could step up and offer a late pick in an effort to take him off Buffalo hands.

LOL yeahno, nobody wants Stubby....
There are plenty of
decent players on big contracts available to teams that want to reach the floor.

Agreed but he is young and some may still see he has potential. Unlike Richards for example. But I tend to agree since Buffalo has yet to find any takers.

If anyone sees anything of value in Hodgson (unlikely) they'd wait until after the inevitable buyout.
Know one needs a boat anchor to reach the floor.
(other than my good buddy Skyo the other night)

2. Cody Hodgson is clearly a very exciting piece right now. He has been making incremental improvements through the season and rising to the occasion in the most "playoff like" game of the season is incredibly encouraging. He may of course fall off but if he doesn't the Canucks are looking stacked.
He has 21 points in his last 31 games (56 over 82 pace) while playing 9-12 mpg, mostly with bottom6 talent. That is incredibly good production in relation to role and ice time, and something you rarely see from any NHL player let alone a rookie.
Very few teams win a cup with out some young players rising up and giving them a major push, last year it was Brad Marchant for the Bruins, the year before it was a number of guys for the Hawks. Cody is looking like that guy for the Canucks, but we'll see.
Potatoe1 wrote:When a players is traded, or leaves as a free agent, it's pretty much a given that fans of said players previous team will take a far more negative view.
So while Cody was the golden child a few weeks back, the next Trevor Linden, and Hanks Sedins eventual replacement, in 2 more weeks he will be fully re-made into a small, slow skating, prima-donna, who simply didn't have the character, integrity or intelligence, to play for your Vancouver Canucks.
This is the nature of things.
Oh, I could have so much more fun with this.

Still think MG could have gotten a lot more for him at the time, had he made it known Hodgson was on the trade block.

St. Louis has advised Barret Jackman that he will not be re-signed effectively making him UFA. A good Bieksa replacement?
Coyotes expected to relocate to downtown Phoenix until a new rink is built in Scottsdale. They will no longer try to stay in Glendale. Bettman is determined to keep the franchise in Arizona and a rink share can be work out with the Suns until a new arena is done. This should revitalize fan interest in the team, better location.
Dubnyk and Minny at an impass. Minny has too much money locked up in two goalies already and need to move one but are expected to do what they can to keep Dubnyk.

A lot of GM jobs have come up since the fans at Rogers Arena fired - Mike Gillis. Strange that his name wasn't even brought up in conversation for those vacated GM positions????
Mike is too smart everyone

I still find it interesting to note that in their final World Junior tourney in 2009, Hodgson and Tavares were lauded equally for their performances (Hodgson the top scorer, Tavares the MVP). It appeared that both players had very impressive futures ahead of them. It was suggested that Hodgson might even be the better all-round talent. Jump to 2015 and while Taveres is nominated for the Hart Trophy, Hodgson is about to bought-out of his contract.
More data for the ever-growing set of evidence that junior to pro is a difficult extrapolation.

Did I miss ExGMMG's exit interview?
Wtf happened to that guy.
Is he on a beach somewhere laughing his ass off; or is he in a basement somewhere with a red ball in his mouth getting his ass drilled off?

I bet Hodgson rebounds with another team that is in an better situation compared to the 2014/15 Sabres which is/was one of the shittiest teams in NHL history.
