That young trio just need the Sedins/Sutter/Eriksson to help take the hard minutes, we got a lot of 3rd/4th liners even some in Utica who could play.
The line that has been driving the bus of late has been Burrows - Bo - Baertschi. Granlund is a tweener at this point, and his disappearing act would be even more apparent if he was expected to be a go-to scorer.

Sutter had a good game tonight, but at $4.5M he's overpaid. Burrows at $2M or less is a much better option (should he be willing to come that cheap) as he is a much smarter player.

Your leaders on this team after the Sedins are Burrows, Hansen, and Bo.

There is a gaping hole in the leadership on the blueline right now.
Some might say it's selling higher value now that Burrows is playing for his next contract, perfect for a true contender, it's time to get younger up front, acquire picks/prospects for players of value. People were at one point in the summer wanting to buy him out, but JB wisely kept him and its proving dividends, but bro time sell off vets further, we really need to restock picks/prospects and get younger now.

Bart/Bo/Virtanen also played well in spurts, force that line next season, nothing to lose with this pretender group that plays competitive, but clearly is getting outshined by the well built teams with better coaches.

Throw in the Expansion draft this year, really makes Hansen expendable now too, prospects for him please.

We need to invest in the future, not keep quality veteran 2nd/3rd line checkers, need a few game breakers that we can only hope to acquire in draft picks or prospects.

Burrows may have more value than Hansen right now simply because Hansen needs to be protected in the expansion draft. Linden said deals are trickier this year because of expansion and the need for trading teams to have room for protection. There will be a couple of contenders willing to bite the bullet because they believe they have a legitimate chance to win it all but I think fewer than past years. GMs will be reluctant to part with a lot of assets if they can't protect a player.

But this is the year to get a jump on TDD.

Burrows hasn't had more value than Hansen since he signed that boat anchor.

I agree Hansen might get more value after the expansion draft but weren't there a couple of posters recently saying that Granlund should be protected instead of Hansen. LOL

Im assuming players on expiring contracts will be in most demand at the deadline like Burrows and Miller unless Cup Contenders don't mind picking up a Granlund or Hansen and then not protecting them at the expansion. I guess it's the same dif

One would think that if we are long out of it by the TDD players like Miller may request a trade to a contender to help their cause in signing for big money come July, same with Hansen with only one year on his deal, who knows but I think Burrows will leave the game soon and probably knows at best he could get a 1 year deal

And IF we do miss the playoffs this year one wonders if the SEDINS say fuck it, lets go to a another team, that return would be pretty decent if we retain some salary 50%, probably looking at a 1st, 2nd, prospect, young proven roster player and a cap hit player or two to reach $7m.

As a professional team management gotta look at every scenario, this is probably one of them.

You think that another GM is going to pay all of that for the Sedins? Or are you saying both of them return one of a 1st, 2nd, prospect, or young roster player, and the cap hit player?

I see a 1st and a prospect, with the Canucks sucking up a a cap hit/salary dump player , and Canucks retaining 1/2 their cap hit.

I'd do that trade, if the Twins wanted another shot at the cup.

SKYO, keep your Fantasy Trading in the proper forum. The Sedins are not getting traded. They will retire after next season as Canucks, playing out their contracts and then they will play out their pro careers back home in the SEL. My prediction.

Well the Sedins OK'ing a trade would quicken the rebuild a lot quicker, just saying, it's 97% not going to happen, but one never knows how a player feels after missing playoffs after playoffs and not winning a Cup, granted they could be like Shane Doan with the Arizona Coyotes and just be happy playing for fun and getting paid, not really competing for a Cup, just mentoring the kids.

Extreme long shot, as long as a shot as Blobbee Macenzzi coming to the realization to just how gawd awful - the Blacklisted, ex-players agent, now UVIC Prof - Mike GIllis was as a GM in the NHL

For the rebuild, JB has to be swift & ruthless like Bill Belichick, capitalize on all opportunities even if that means trading star players away, like ones who want too much cash - http://www.sbnation.com/2016/10/31/1347 ... and-browns

Belichick is great at trading away players for good picks before they become too pricey and or don't take a pay cut to stay.

Everyone here knows about how the Blackhawks do this, mostly because they have to, but they like the Patriots, keep a handful of their uber core, but trade away their star players for picks and prospects while they still have good value which has kept their prospect cupboards full for those winter days, this is what MG should have done, and because of this lack of foresight ultimately cost him his job as the Canucks core never changed, team became zestless, dry, unmotivated, and the prospect cupboard was running on empty for a loooong time.

I know most of the prospects currently haven't come to fruition yet and may or may not become NHLers, at least it's a vast improvement in prospect world for this team compared to previous years.

Boeser being the most exciting piece.
Juolevi, Gaudette, Lockwood, Demko next.

Team management/owners/prez need to jump aboard selling vets to contenders for picks this year & build up the prospects further.

There is no push from the prospects to take NHL jobs. Maybe, big maybe, by September Boeser, or Virtanen can justify taking Burrows vacated RW spot. Other than dark horse surprises, no one else seems over ripe, or couldn't use at least a season in Utica. So, top nine wingers are likely Eriksson, D Sedin, Baertschi, Hansen, Granlund and another FA signing (or two if LV takes one of those wingers). Trading away what little depth the team has will make the team less competitive this year and next. That is against the stated goal of the team. I can't see them making any moves that hurt the team's chances next season, perhaps the Sedin's last. The Sedins will not be traded. Perhaps a defenseman will be traded for a winger, but that may not be wise either if Sbisa is lost to LV, and Juolevi isn't ready in September. I'd rather they keep their D solid.

Realistic moves to avoid losing assets in the expansion draft is trading away one of the wingers and Sbisa for prospects or picks that don't need protection in the expansion draft, but could play in the top nine next season. They would be writing off this season if they do that, so don't expect it unless they are one hundred percent out of it at the trade deadline. If they are anywhere close to a playoff spot, they likely don't make any moves.

That's saying that other teams actually want our vets... it takes 2 to tango. With everyone having to expose Veterans for the expansion draft, what team is going to want our castoffs?!?? And even if they did, all those teams will be near the salary cap and will want to offload all their crap and salaries on us...

Not going to be a busy TDD

Agreed cherryP.

Madco I think Burrows will be dealt at the TDD.
Teams have started calling Vancouver Canucks GM Jim Benning about Alex Burrows, who turns 36 in April. Probably Western Conference teams, who know what the set-to-be unrestricted free agent winger can bring to the table.
http://www.edmontonsun.com/2017/01/12/h ... yoff-grind
Burrows has great playoff experience, that 2011 Cup run really upped his stock and his pending UFA is el perfecto to contenders, Alain of the NYR will vouch for him, the Habs probably kept tabs on him, and all the West knows about him, he should garner a 2nd if we retain some salary plus thanks to his improved play this season with Baertschi and Horvat.

Prior to the expansion draft another vet will be dealt to help with the rebuild, Hansen.

Then it's only the sedins/edler/tanev left from the 2011 cup run...**those four in hindsight should have been our kane/toews/keith/seabrook core, and traded everyone else to keep the team hungry/motivated, Bill Belichick style -> make trades with zero fucks given, team success over everything.

If we shit the bed on this road trip that should be enough to open up the flood gates one would think. Miller and Burrows? A 3rd for Burrows a 2nd for Miller would be ideal.
