1. The ones that seemed most idiotic to me was signing Lankinen and trading Silovs.
2. Then the biggest mistake was Miller over Horvat.
3. Not re-signing Cole which killed their PK.
They still suck on the PK and why they should trade for Edvinsson now.
Shenn is their only half decent PK defencemen, and he is slowing down.
Maybe D-Petey grows into the role?
DPete has been the best of the 3 kids. He's recovered from his sophomore slump and is looking stronger, faster, making better decisions. He even turns faster for Topper!

I don't see any of the contracts as boat anchors, outside of the goaltending mess. We just lack total talent. We are a shitty team even with EP, Jake, Brock and Hronek. But, outside of EP under performing by a few sheets, the other 3 are playing to their contracts.
JT and Hughes are Rutherfords biggest anchors. Giving Pods away was also dumb. Hiring Tocchet and Foote did not help, as they were probably ok as coaches, but they watched the locker room shit show happen, and Foote never had a system.
But, of the remaining players, Lankinen is the only real boat anchor (and the Loui Eriksson/OEL buyout blight, as it also hits our cap)

And, don't forget, dropping 2 or 3 spots every draft lottery also doesn't help a rebuild. But that's not the GMs fault.

Since we're talking decisions generally, not just the ones that became boat anchors, was it really a good decision to hire Tocchet? The Miller/EP rift was already simmering but bringing Tocchet in seemingly brought it to a boil. They had to have known that Miller was a Tocchet guy yet they were still placing their chips on Petterson? What was their expectation with this move? That it would light a fire under EP?

Fair point.....Rick ultimately stoked the fire as opposed to solving the issue.
Plus he cost us Podz due to his arrogance.
We've hired a lot of the "wrong coach" over the years.
It's a thing for us....

Forgot the Podz move, though technically not what the thread was asking for.
Regardless whether management was aiming for contention or a rebuild, you don’t throw a piece like Podz for essentially future considerations - to a divisional rival no less!

Tocc was also responsible for getting rid of/buying out a serviceable defencemen in OEL. Which really hurt the cap at the time, but I was limiting myself to GM moves.

I think I heard Manny say that Bains is showing the guys what type of hockey Manny expects and at practice he leads the charge in drills. So he has familiarity with Manny and that has bought him his ticket. But sooner or later Manny has to cut the cord.
I agree Bains' main function is in marketing, but the Canucks also have designated roster spots for "culture carriers".
Cut the cord sooner or later? Yes, but later. The Canucks have no need of players to help them win this season. They do need players who sell tickets/merchandise, and players who model complete buy-in, and are rewarded for it.

Like I said in the last GDT, Bains didn't look out of place in that game. (Not saying he's a keeper... just saying...)

Bainsy wouldn't look any less out of place even as a keeper

Raty should be playing in lieu of Bains.
Part of a rebuild is developing your young talent.
Part of developing young talent is putting them in positions of success or failure to see what you have.
It is doing zero good to have Raty sit.
Raty will win us no more games than Bains being in the lineup.
More tfg bullshit...

While I can understand the 'Tankists' love them some Lankinen (I mean, the guy is stopping 2 out of 3 pucks this year in every game he has played - that SCREAMS rebuild!), I gotta question what does that do for the confidence/culture of this team. Its such a thin line to walk between learning systems and rebuilding culture to having that one guy who keeps losing you games because he could not stop a beachball from center ice.
Did anyone else notice how the team just kinda quit when Diesel let in the 4th goal?? (Props to Corny for THAT nickname!!)
