Briere making sure Anaheim doesn’t just sit on their vast cap space. $18 million AAV is going to take a bit out of that. I wager Verbeek is a miserable enough bastard to have identified upcoming opportunities to do the same to Briere, and Michkov is due for a new contract next summer.
As much as this is the Holy Hand Grenade (of Antioch) when it comes to GM vs GM moves, I do like it and hope to see more of it. It will force teams to be on top of extensions. And if too many players start trying to force the issue by waiting until RFA in hopes of cashing in, well then I suspect we see a short window of high draft picks changing hands until the overpayments start biting teams in the ass when young players don’t actually live up to their contracts.
Could be fun.

Apparently (allegedly) 4 teams offered sheeted him and others were sniffing about.
Seems your wish may come true....
Apparently (allegedly) Mintyukov may be next.
Verbeek will legit be a little ball of hate soon....

The Ducks are cheap as fuck. I hope Verbeek gets raped.

Lots of chatter out there how Verbeek was grinding on 10 - 12 sheets annually and playing the tough GM game (as he did with Zegras).
Allegedly.
Seems to have bitten him in the ass.
Annual signing bonus on Leo's OS...
19.5 18.1 17.05 15.2 & 15

Holy SHIT!
Flyers offer sheet Leo Carlsson to the tune of $18M x 5 ($90M). If Ducks don’t match they get a quartet of 1st round picks.
They just traded McTavish, they can’t also lose Carlsson, or they are in a bind down the middle. But $18M for a guy that has not scored at even a 1.0 ppg pace is a brutal overpayment. Philly just fucked themselves and Anaheim in one move.
Has not even scored at a ppg. lol. Nope, all he did was score at a .96 ppg pace last year, a season that he started while being too young to order a beer in an Anaheim bar.
Carlsson is an awesome player. His defense is almost as good as his offense. He’s in the Kopitar/Barkov class of first line centers. These are guys you win cups with. I don’t think it’s an open and shut case that Bedard is taken before him in a redraft. Certainly Carlsson provided more value last season — and that was Bedard’s best.
And it’s Philly’s biggest missing piece. Was Dvorak their 1C? Zegras?
Honestly, I don’t think this is to screw Verbeek. It’s 4 firsts for a unicorn. Philly is happy to pay it, and honestly, their roster looks damn good if this goes through. The $$ is an overpayment, but what the hell. They’ve got the space, money’s easy, finding 1C’s who score, who are big, good on the PP, good on the PK, good 5 on 5, that’s hard. It’s less crazy than giving Kaprizov $17M.
Use your money on the players that really separate themselves. Carlsson is one.
Anaheim’s been rebuilding for years. They managed success last year and now have jack shit outside of LaComb on D. If they lose their #1 center, they take a huge step back (having traded a young center before the draft). They can’t afford to lose Carlsson.
(And it looks like they matched).

Yeah I tend to agree UW.
Carlsson is very possibly Mats Sundin.
That value exceeds 4 unknown 1st round picks midspan or lower where the Flyers would be picking with Leo Zegras Dvorak down the gut.
...also...this is a Flyer "thing" we might all recall.
Weber.
Kesler.

Is he worth $18M per season?

Did they learn nothing from the Lindros deal?

He's 21 Mëds.
Cap rising, Makar, Hughes, Bedard, Celebrini and McDavid setting the next levels when he hits 23 he just might be.
If they win a Cup in the next 5 years he 100% represents value.
Edit...anyway...fun to discuss but I imagine they match.

In other news I see James Dolan is kicking over controlling interest of Corns team to his son.
I wonder if that ends up having any Drury implications?

They just earned their way back into the playoffs (albeit in a "pillow fight"), I cannot see them heading back towards a rebuild with 4 first rounders at the expense of their new 1C. I agree he's going to be a helluva player, and certainly is already a stronger 200 foot player than Bedard.....your offer sheet on Bedard scenario would be priceless to watch unfold, but Anaheim would be better served to keep Carlsson. Bedard showed marked improvement, but his 200 foot game is not as good, and his durability is certainly becoming questionable.

Well with each passing day it does seem EP40 is definitely more trade-able.
Love that these offer sheets are being thrown out there. I’m sure the NHLPA does as well!
