I’m hoping Debrusk finds another gear in his arsenal of gears with a new home here, fingers crossed. Chef just gets the shivers thinking ‘what if he doesn’t find another gear.’???
Is this a heads-up that you are going to needlessly bash this player right off the bat? He's scored pretty consistently at about a 24-25 goal pace during his career. This is playing about 15 min a game up and down the lineup. He can play both special teams, skates well, is 27 and his takeaway to giveaway ratio is very good. He isn't afraid to hit and will go to the blue paint to score. Comparing him to Eriksson is asinine. That prick had 3 hits one season here. He was also 31 when he signed at a much higher % of the cap. Maybe he puts in 30 -35 regularly with CC a couple minutes more per game. Look at Hyman's numbers since he got more opportunity.

My opinion is we need an upgrade to the top 4 D to play with Hughes or Soucy if Hronek goes back with Q.
Juulsen and Forbort need to 7-8, Myers and Desharnais should be the 3rd pair.

Ricky spoke post practice yesturday, your 1st line is correct
2nd line, Cohog forces Debrusk to his off wing (he can play it), Sherwood was mentioned, Sushi an outside possibility. Sprong mentioned with a lot of caveats about his game without the puck. He also mentioned Scooter needs to start driving the play.
Raty may usurp Aman.
I wonder if Bluger is a go, does Raty get 4C with Suter to the wing until HalfSack is back?
Hughes Juuls
Hronek Meyers
Soucy Deharnais/Friedland
Raty looks better than Aman no doubt, but if it's a battle for the 13th spot, I'd prefer Aman in it and Raty getting big minutes in Abby. Unless injuries mean Raty will actually get in some games in Van and not just ride the pine.
I havn't been impressed with Forbort, but they just signed him to a >1mil contract.. I'm not sure they're then going to bench, him, but we'll see.

This is the biggest hole in the team I think, a true top 4 to push Soucy and Myers back in to 4/5D territory where they are more likely to succeed.
problem is, at this time of year where are you going to get one and what's the cost? I'm absolutely not in for losing significant futures at this time.. maybe in a few months when you know more what you have with the team.

You compared him earlier to the Loui signing, but that signing was for high-end UFA money at the time. today, 5.5 mil per year is not that. In a few years that's going to be middle-six money and even 3rd line money if it isn't already. All signings have risk but this isn't one to get bent out of shape about.
If you really have to get bent though, why not with Pettersson? I believe he's going to get better than he was end of last season, but he's far and away the guy who is either going to make or break this team.

Wow, these guys rate Nucks as one of the faves for the Cup, ahead of the likes of TO, Dallas and Colorado.
So, who are those guys?

I believe how long it takes Demko to get healthy, how healthy he gets, and how long he can stay healthy are what's going to make or break this team.
If Pettersson has a career year, but Demko can't play 40, or can't play the playoffs, or does manage to play but his game does not reach previous standards of performance, or any combination of those unfortunately not terribly unlikely events transpire, then unless one of his backups raises his game to previously unforeseen levels (i.e. peak Demko), the Canucks aren't doing much this season.

In response to Dude's concern over Debrusk's 7 year contract, I was more worried about 11.6 mil x 8.. if Pettersson is no longer an 11.6 mil player. You could pretty quickly destroy this cores chance at a cup this decade with a contract like that if he fell off a cliff more permanently as he did last season.
but yeah in the immediate future I would agree Demko is a bigger concern

And I agree that long-term under-performance on an $11.6 million contract has the potential to close out an entire competitive window.

Chef worries about DeBrusks contract, has that potential to becoming a regrettable signing.
Yah, not sure I really like this contract as well, especially the term (4-5 yrs would have been ok). I get why mgmt targeted Debrusk in a potential guy to play with EP40. His age does fit nicely and he has the potential to become a core player with us, but it not a slam dunk. I don't mind the cheap contracts given to Heinen, Sherwood and Sprong as they all have the chance to play above their contracts and the terms are short. I just don't like the fact that we spent the bulk of our money on wingers. Even D81, not sure I give him that contract. I would have preferred to use that money to get a legit top 4 D-man and/or a centre to replace Lindholm. We paying Debrusk & Joshua combined close to $9M, that can get us a pretty good D-man and/or a centre.
Heck, I would even have liked to save some money for Brockstar6. As of now, it looks like it'll be really difficult to keep him, especially if he has another solid year. We'd most likely have to move someone out to have any chance to resign him.
I think I would have just kept Podz and not bothered with Debrusk.

Meh, worst case scenario, you buy out DeBrusk in 3 years time.
$1.85M post-buyout cap hit for 8 years.
Or more likely, just retain a bit... for lesser years.
But I feel confident he'll earn his keep for the length on that deal.
You guys worry too much, please report to Strawberry's shed immediately.

IF? No Longer?
Pettersson has never been an $11.6M player.

Two too early questions we could but don't want to ask.
1 - Has EP2 surpassed EP1?
2 - When does Blobby Brown start calling Scooter Boy "The Air Thief"?

Pettersson has never been an $11.6M player.
And until this upcoming season, he's never drawn that salary. He's 25, had a year where he was nicked up and a carousel of poor linemates but the urine crew is out in full force as per usual. The guy more than earned his last contract but now the piss posse is out with their pitchforks almost licking their lips in anticipation of him having a poor season so they can say they're right on a message board.
