I have to admit I'm a bit disappointed in not getting to see an Oompa Loompa line of Rossi between Hoglander and Garland
Imagine, for a moment.... if you will, the circus. Imagine them all piling out of a phone booth, or riding that bike with the giant front wheel

Yeh. I had similar thoughts. We are already full of shrimps. Jumbo shrimps, baby shrimps. Swedish shrimps. I'd rather have Pavel Zacha. Soft, but at least he has some size.

Zacha brings us more depth to the Chytil, Raty, Blueger middle six category

Pettersson threw a ring on his Instagram honey bunny the other day so hopefully he's going to be focusing on hockey more than chasing squirrel this year. All signs point to a strong resurgence.
Chytil sounds like he's finally moving past his concussion issues and had a strong summer training.
The Canucks upgraded angry black guys
Demko sounds like he's ready
Probably the strongest defense and goaltending in our division
There is legitimate reason for optimism

Sure, but we are still a team of mediocre wingers and no proper second line and no proper 2nd line level quality centre. Chytil is not a legit top two line level quality centre even when his brain is sitting stable in his skull.
Everything’s hinges on Pettersson and Demko staying healthy. Even so, we need an injection of an elite level top two line player. It’s a big drop after Pettersson, IF Petey returns to form
The defence is ok, it’s stable, but it ain’t marvellous

Chytil was tracking very well before his string of concussions in NY. Even played some top line minites, the numbers back this up. I saw a big guy who can skate pucks into prime scoring places. He has a nose for the net and might be a surprise.
The defense is best in division, possibly the conference. Not sure what more we need back there for you to acknowledge they're pretty close to marvelous.
Demko and Pettersson are the caveat sure but both have done exactly what they needed to do to return to form this offseason.
The difference between the 23/24 team that came out of nowhere and scooped up a division title are not that far from this group in overall talent. Minus JT Miller hurts but a deep defense like this with young up and comers instead of scrubs on the bottom pair plus MPete is almost a break even in my eyes.

Yep - as of now, we're still in the running to win the Cup. May as well be optimistic at this point, and wait to see what the season brings.

Isn’t this what we have to do when the season starts. After every loss we curse management for them not fixing the problems and after every win we start to believe the team will make the playoffs.
Such is the life of a sports fan.

First rate goaltending and defence can take you far. Trouble is, I don't usually find it much fun to watch.

In a cap league, nobody gets to ice a team that is first rate in every category.
In the 4 Nations Tournament, the lowest cap hit roster was Finland's at 106 million, and The USA's (the highest) was over 175 million.
I think much of an NHL general manager's job is deciding where they will most tolerate holes, and how to make the holes as small as possible. Knowing that something has to give, I think the wing is the least harmful place to be relatively weak.

This is where our depth can be a factor.
No team survives its top 2-3 players out for stretches, or its loss of secondary scoring, but we are immune to injuries in the middle 6. We have plenty of guys scrapping for those spots. Best depth this team has had for a long time.

If you want to enjoy some remote schadenfreude, tune into coiler talk radio as the season approaches with McDavid unsigned heading into his final season. It puts all the Hughes pantywringing into context

It's just Chef, (and mediots). The other 17 of us are as cool as cucumbers.
