What the fuck is Linden doing wading into the management situation. Aren't there little old ladies who need help across the street?
He's becoming Smyl annoying.

Russian forward Ilya Safonov, who spent this past season with KHL club Ak Bars Kazan, is not expected to extend his contract with his current team and will instead try to sign with Vancouver, as per KHL reporter @HockeyNewsHub on X.
From somewhere on the web.
If he signs he will be 25 and his ELC is either 1 or 2 years. Who knows if he will be that bottom 6 forward for us or Abbey fodder

Let's get this dude over here when his KHL contract is up and see what we have.....
6'5" 224 lb 2 way centre who pk's and is ice aware...doesn't seem to mind the front of the net either.
A smart defense-first type player and an excellent penalty killer with a big frame that sees the ice well. He makes good decisions with and without the puck and tends to be in the right place at the right time; there is potential for more of a two-way player within the right situation.

At the older end for a re-building piece, but there won't be as much wear and tear on him, and I can think of a couple of other bigger players who had long careers. (I'd say that in general, over the ages from 25 to 40, size ages better than speed in the NHL.)
So if the Canucks have anything at all with Safanov, there's a reasonable chance it will still be there by the time it matters again.
If it's just the wrong fit, he sounds like the kind of asset most teams could usually use, so he should return a high proportion of his potential trade value.

By the way...it was 56 years ago today's date that Vancouver was granted an NHL team for a franchise fee of 6 million....50 some million in today's dollars.
Atlanta will pay 2 billion when they let them back in the club....

They'll avoid unnecessary physical contact that way
