Sign me up to the sign Gudas bandwagon, assuming it is a a reasonable FA contract signing.
And Petterson has already hinted (much like DeBrusk), that he is not interested in a rebuild. Sign Gudas, and ship Pettersson for a forward asset or a pick.Mëds wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2026 9:44 amGudas?Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2026 9:22 am He is also FA and is a good friend of Hronek's. Currently our left side is Buium and the Pettersson's twain.
Forbort should be gonzo to UFA, and Joseph is unremarkable.
I think Gudas is a lateral move from Marcus Pettersson overall. Meaty is a bit more mobile, but Gudas is tough as fucking nails.....and this team needs that. I think their overall puck skills are a wash.
So I would say absolutely yes to that if we could somehow offload Pettersson. It provides veteran presence with snarl, and it also boosts morale for another veteran leader who has said he wants to stay here.

It will not be a reasonable contract.
Pat Quinn said it after Juice punched out Fedor Fedorov. He was asked in the media if he would look at trading for Sergie..theman wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2026 10:59 amWhich one?Madcombinepilot wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2026 10:58 amAnd Petterson has already hinted (much like DeBrusk), that he is not interested in a rebuild. I am all for shipping out F Petey and DeBrusk.
Gudas is 35, no team will offer him more than 3 years. 3 years is not too long for this team right now. Overpaying him by $1M or less is part of the price of rebuilding. His current deal pays him $4M, wherever he lands next will be for less. I would happily pay him $3M x 3 if it meant not paying Meaty $5.5M x 5 (remaining).Madcombinepilot wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2026 11:00 amIt will not be a reasonable contract.
No UFA signing here will be reasonable for the next few years. They will all be 1-2million too much, and 1-2 years too long.
When you suck and in a rebuild, nobody wants to play there... Remember Chicago and SanJ before they got a star?

It's amazing how clear thoughts can be!
I respectfully disagree.. a team needs a couple of veterans to help the youth work through a rebuild, or you end up a perennial bottom feeder like Buffalo was for a decade.Cousin Strawberry wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2026 11:26 am Reuniting Gudas with Hronek shouldn't be a thing.

I agree on the blue line. This year has shown us what 4 rookies at once on the blue line looks like. And it aint pretty. If the coaching does not switch to a better, stricter defensive structure, 4 sophomores will not look better next year either..Mëds wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2026 11:50 am Cap space does matter.....I'd say more than ever with the new rules.
Hence Meaty out and Gudas in which should provide more than $1.5M in space and a reduction in term commitment.
You need to have 2 or 3 vets on your blueline. Hronek is one, Gudas could be the other.
Hronek should not be flipped right now until there is an internal replacement for the top-pairing. That is not happening any time soon. He also has a full NMC for the next 2 seasons and has made it known that he does not want to go anywhere.
Look at flipping him at the 2029 deadline when he still has 3 years remaining but only a 15 team NTC.
Buium - Hronek
_____ - Gudas
Pettersson - Willander
Mancini
Mancini and D-Pete can be moved out if someone in the system displaces them, or if a trade offer comes along that makes sense.
Gudas and Hronek are the vets that hand the reins over to Buium and Willander (and hopefully someone else) in 3 years time.....at which point Hronek can be moved and Gudas can as well, or he simply exits as his hypothetical contract expires.
