Why would I try again? If you're trying to pigeonhole me into some role of being anti-Benning or something to discredit my opinion, I actually supported Benning and Co. for their first 3 seasons or so. My opinion changed on him as the situation unfolded, adapting to the evidence. I think it's hilarious that some people are so entrenched in their views that they refuse to ever change their stance despite seeing the red flags along the way. Simple minded people are too stubborn to ever reconsider their positions.

But the fact that the team now has an elite 19 year old #1 D man and an elite 20 year old #1 centre to build around is a problem? These were both acquired outside of the first three years of debauchery. I was the biggest Benning beater here..... among others. The guy was mostly a disaster on the job outside of the 2014 and 2015 drafts. He mangled the cap and made some really dumb trades. But as a Canucks fan I see a young team albeit riddled with holes on D , that is fun to watch and has promise.Edge Lord wrote: ↑Thu Jun 04, 2020 6:42 pmYes, because it was about giving Benning the benefit of the doubt and keeping an open mind. Some of the moves definitely required hindsight to see as bad (Vey and Baer trades for sure). I think the Gudbranson trade was the turning point for me.Doyle Hargraves wrote: ↑Thu Jun 04, 2020 6:41 pmWhy would I try again? Edge Lord wrote: ↑Thu Jun 04, 2020 6:58 pm Don't get me wrong, I'm ecstatic to have Pettersson and Hughes. But I don't really view them as a product of GM acumen. Scouting? For sure. Hughes to me was the BPA at where we picked so I don't see it as some steal or something.
I think the only thing that needs to be said on why it makes sense to trash Benning is based on this. If it were up to Benning our team would look something like (to be fair, some of it is based on rumours, but they're based on multiple sources at least):
IN: Bolland, Lucic, Eriksson, Hanifin, Subban, Glass
OUT: Boeser (traded the 2015 pick for Lucic), Hughes (offered the pick for Hanifin), Pettersson, and potentially Horvat if the Subban rumour was true.
People might say "but those things never happened so who cares", but I think the intent of a GM is still important in determining how qualified they are for the job. Benning still wanted to make those moves which is absurd.
