with the cap skyrocketing, the league will need a couple summers of overspending to need relief again..

Surprisingly, no waiver claims. I figured they could send down Lekkerimaki without waivers and give one of the possible waiver claims a look for a couple months. Well, their chances of getting DuPont remain the same…nil…since they always lose the lottery no matter if they finish 32nd.

I read somewhere, I think the Athletic, that the Canucks wants to build a team that has integrity and loyalty. So if they want the players to show this then management needs to show it as well. Unless a waiver is really that good why rock the boat, stay with the players they have and start to build a team players feel they belong.

But is that not kinda what got this team into the rut to begin with?? Not trading the Sedins, Waitinmg too long on Burrows, etc, etc..

At the time the most loved and tenured Canuck was Linden, and they sent him for what ended up being The twins and Bertuzzi. its fine to have loyalty to one, perhaps 2 players, but the teams that hung onto 'That Guy' are all suffering on the transition (Yzerman, Sedins, Ovi, Etc -- unless the draft fix is in -Sid)).. Star players get traded/moved Period. Just have to do it at the right time for the right trade. (Oilers traded Great, won a cup. Chicago traded Seabrook and the glue guys if the core, Tampa moved on from Stammer, Etc, etc)

I know some people will now research the hell out of that to carve it, but I did this off the top of my head. There are WAY more examples of moving big names and keeping the window open than hanging onto beloved franchise guys.

I guess I am saying There is a difference between moving a depth guy (signed in offseason or grabbed off waivers) than a core guy.

SO, if you grab a non core guy off waivers or sign a guy (sprong) and move them for an asset, good management.

But right now, this team has no core guys.

Even if they fear Bains, Sasson and Breezer would get claimed on waivers (which they probably wouldn’t), they have Mancini and Lekkerimaki who do not require waivers. They should not have loyalty to those two as they haven’t shown consistent NHL level play, and can still improve playing in Abby. Grabbing a couple depth players to give a chance or to later flip for a pick when another team runs into injury troubles, maybe with retention, seems logical. When in a rebuild, winning is not important and collecting picks and young potential is, not taking a flyer from the waiver wire seems like a missed opportunity. The season is long, and lots of injuries happen, trades will happen, which will all provide deserving Abby players opportunities.

Apparently there are expected to be some juicier assets available shortly after the season gets under way and that's what is being speculated they're doing. One of the Poitras boys in Washington is a target

I thank that's Poitras, a small young right shooting center in Boston Cuz. Those big Belarussian Protas brothers in Washington won't be anywhere near waivers.

I think the calculation is, and should be, is the player we claim on waivers better than and does he provide more of what we are looking for than any one player we would need to waive. Tolipilo is the perfect example. They clearly do not see him as NHL backup player and the calculation was the guy they got, in their opinion, exceeds Tolipilo’s projection.

The same analysis regarding Sasson, Bains, Brisbois and Raty needs to be made. I don’t think they would hesitate plucking someone and waiving one of those guys if a player was waived who they felt was a better fit. True those four are a dime a dozen type player but that’s not the point.
