Some further staffing cuts. Neil Komadoski and Jack Johnson have moved on from their pro scouting positions; to Buffalo and Columbus respectively.

Dale Tallon has also quietly vacated his senior advisory role with the team.

With a clean sweep of management it is not a surprise that they are making more internal moves. And I am sure more to come. To be expected. If you are heading in a new direction then get your people on board, where you want them.

I have no problem with cutting payroll both on the player side and management side. Any team in a rebuild pretty much does the same thing. And if we have a ton of cap space we have a ton of wiggle room should opportunities arise to use that space. We also have plenty of room to lock up our young players as they come off ELC.

Ok so Cammi was head of both amateur and pro scouting and will have a consultative role on amateur scouting. I wonder why they would keep her just for that, the funniest answer is because they’re hiring Ray Ferraro for something and want to keep sweet.

I don’t know that pro and amateur scouting should have much to do with each other. Perhaps it’s that the jobs are being split. To me it makes sense to have the internal assets be all its own thing, eg amateurs scouting, development, recruitment, retention, skill building and contracts all vertically integrated. Then a distinct (smaller?) group that looks at external factors: pro scouting, advance scouting, spotting trends in league management and refereeing, salary cap and rumour estimates for the other 31 teams to predict their roster moves, etc.

With analytics tools developed in house to apply to either side as needed.

Why don’t I think pro and amateur scouting have much to do with each other?

Because one group serves to grow the Canucks prospects depth by looking at youth players while the other serves to monitor the professional ranks.

Now I suppose the counter argument is that a scout should be familiar with both and can cover territory more efficiently if they see both, and can also see what tendencies play better at the pro level.

But I was thinking more of the management level: that the focus on development is actually huge and deserves full time attention
