And agreed about the intimidation factor, even though I knew that dog, and dog sat many times over the years, she was intense - and had a look about her that said, "step wrong son, and I'll end you - carrot please!"

As a very young paper delivery boy, my 3 least favourite dogs in no particular order:
- Dobermans
- Rottweilers
- German Shepards
My nuts still tries to hide inside whenever I see one unleashed, whether they're just sitting there or approaching slowly.
To combine these recent topics, I will say that I want to fascistically shoot the F out of the loud, barking beagle across the street.

Personally, I like German Shepherds. They may not beat a pit bull or a Rottweiler in a fight, but they would fuck up an intruder. They are also very smart, much more so than a pit bull or a Rottweiler. From a training aspect, Shepherds are the way to go. The only thing is that they shed a lot.
My son had a doberman, amazing what an affectionate dog he was.
We put our 15 year old dog down a couple of months ago and got a new Boston Terrier (terrorizer would be a more accurate description) puppy. Lot of fun and energy and hardly any shedding. Also, very smart breed, easy to train. Not much of a protective dog, but then again, that is why I have a shot gun..

Careful though.
There have been incidents with home defenders shooting their teenage kids sneaking in at night while the parents think they're sound asleep in their bed... In that case you may be better off with buckshot.
My kids are in their 40s and don't live anywhere near me, so that won't be a problem.

As an aside, I think the tank would be a step too far.
My father used to tell me that the problem in Africa isn't too little food, or too many guns, but not enough guns. I believe he was right in saying we should have dropped guns, not food to the starving civilians.

Just an aftermarket Tech sight. It replaces the terrible open notch in front on the receiver with a peep sight locked in using the dust cover bolt. Turns 6" groups into 2" groups. And, outside of a close examination, it looks stock.

Too many things in life are taken as rights here. I honestly think that everything should be on the table - if you can prove yourself to be competent, and mentally stable - through rigorous testing, not by Government Orgs., but by people in the businesses themselves go for it, own an AR-15 and drive a tank.
Its the same with gun ownership. It should be way harder to get your PAL (especially for restricted weapons) than taking one of those courses that really is just a money grab for the companies that run them. Down south, just take a look at SilverCore - friend of mine worked for them as an instructor, and they had a minimal failure rate. And not because she was an excellent teacher - it was a mandate from leadership.
In 2023 there were roughly 1250 gun deaths (289 homicides) in Canada and 1964 traffic deaths. Your hunch was correct.
Oddly I couldn't find the number of total gun fatalities, but I did find gun homicides and a claim that they account for 23% of gun deaths, so I could reverse calculate an approximate number. 4 % are supposedly accidents and the rest suicides.

Not many for sure. I'd also like to know how many homicides were committed by people who have stolen from legal gun owners (break and entry, kids, people who knew they had guns etc. etc.).
And suicides. Because honestly, that stat matters too.
Edit: Its also the trend that bothers me. I know most are illegally imported, but still. The rate of firearm-related violent crime reaches a 14-year high as of stats available in 2022*. Gun crime is getting worse, and quickly.
Perhaps I am just seeing more of it, being in the North?

6-year-old border collie - slightly neurotic, barks at everything.
They have successfully kept the school squirrel-free for many years!
(Shotgun in the closet (unloaded) in case of emergency)
I have a 9 year old English Dudley lab. My shadow as well, moreso the last two years. Kindest dog I've ever met. He can be a thief. He leaks hair like pine needles off a dry Christmas tree. And he also keeps the squirrels and the birds out of the yard. He's scared shit of the cat though.

My lab is TERRIFIED of storms - he's a mess 20-30 minutes before it rolls into town.
