Why is Compher thrown into the trade? I don’t follow Detroit, so all I see are his stats. Has his play fallen off to Canuck levels?

That trade also guarantees we finish dead last again. Poor Manny.

Finishing in the bottom of the barrel is what Manny signed up for. He knows he’s here to develop a roster for an organization that is a dumpster fire at the moment.

Another top 3 pick only helps in that endeavour.

Yeah agreed.

Which is why he was pushing for a 5 year deal as opposed to the 3 he got.

Manuel has better perception of depth than I gave him credit for.

MM: "I want 5 years!"

FA: "You'll get 3"

MM: "I want more pay then"

FA: "You'll take less"

MM: "Ok"

Compher started as a classic desperate UFA overpayment and then his play declined further. It’s stats and more.

Some folks are good players on great player contracts. He is a below average nhl forward who has peaked and is on a top 6 contract. Theory is (a) Detroit will want to shed salary to make additional improvements and (b) DeBrusk’s presence is only going to put Compher further down the lineup. Both Copp and Compher have become punching bags of a sort among Red Wing fans—guys brought in to get them over the hump who either weren’t the right guys to begin with or didn’t live up to their previous performance.

He has an opportunity to set the record for fewest points by a rookie coach. He should be paying us! And, he might get the record for fewest points as a rookie head coach over his first 3 seasons. I hope the man has thick skin.

Makes sense. We have cap to burn and he fills a void.
