I'll stick to my SKS. 5 rounds of 7.62x39. And the pointy bayonet on the end. It's a gun, spear and club all in one.
Excellent choice. Have you refitted it with any of those aftermarket kits?
We can thank the natives that use those to hunt for why they haven't been banned by the gun grabbers.
Ha, yep - those are pretty fun. I have a couple myself. Aftermarket parts galore for those, one I turned into a old school musket lookin' thing - extra long barrel, antiquated trigger group. Can't hit shit with it, but looks funny.

Just as a point of note. This legislation isn't going after hand guns already owned. Just a proposed freeze on new ones.
Not quite accurate. The law now prevents current hand guns from being sold, or being willed down to your kids. This is effectively a full ban with an 80 year phase in window,. It will eliminate legal hand gun ownership.
Fair.
Lucky I don't have kids, so who know what happens when I die to my pistols - my wife will likely just bury them on the property somewhere LOL.
I'm still not terribly upset about this, being a responsible gun owner - I've always felt that its a privilege, not a right. Though I also feel the same about things like driving, too many people think its a right. The tests should be more comprehensive and aim at failing someone, not passing everyone. It all goes hand in hand with safety. I have not looked up the stats, but I'm 94.7% sure that vehicle accidents kill more Canadians than guns.
Too many things in life are taken as rights here. I honestly think that everything should be on the table - if you can prove yourself to be competent, and mentally stable - through rigorous testing, not by Government Orgs., but by people in the businesses themselves go for it, own an AR-15 and drive a tank.
Its the same with gun ownership. It should be way harder to get your PAL (especially for restricted weapons) than taking one of those courses that really is just a money grab for the companies that run them. Down south, just take a look at SilverCore - friend of mine worked for them as an instructor, and they had a minimal failure rate. And not because she was an excellent teacher - it was a mandate from leadership.

Damn, didn't realize there were so many Rambos in the Corner...
As one of the few city slickers here, we can only pack something small and loud for our home security... usually that would be a chihuahua.

The funniest part of the PAL course I recall is how you have to demonstrate climbing over a fence with your rifle. What a joke

The stats would support your postulation regarding vehicle accidents, and it's not even close. There were 289 gun-related deaths in Canada in 2023, while in the same year there were 1964 motor vehicle-related deaths.
I think it should be a right that you
MAY own a gun, but
UNDER guidelines similar to those you outline. Societies that are "forcibly" disarmed their citizens to put the firepower in the hands of the state (for the protection of the people) are not exactly winning rave reviews on the freedom and liberty front.
Just some examples from the 20th century.....
1911: Turkey; citizens disarmed – 1.5 million Armenians were slaughtered
1929: Russia; citizens disarmed – 20 million Russians murdered
1935: China; citizens disarmed – 20 million Chinese killed
1938: Germany; citizens disarmed – 6 million Jews murdered
1956: Cambodia; citizens disarmed – 1 million “intellectuals” killed
1964: Guatemala; citizens disarmed – 100,000 Mayan Indians massacred
1970: Uganda; citizens disarmed – 300,000 Christians put to death
Also of note, a few countries that have disarmed their citizens.....
Russia
North Korea
Venezuela
Cuba
China
As an aside, I think the tank would be a step too far.

Do you know how many people die from firearm discharge while climbing a fence? Likely, none.
They should show you how to climb barbed wire safely… lol

You could add Australia to that list, and if I remember correctly, fairly recently - and due to a mass shooting event.
Japan historically
Great Britain as well.
Not just crazy places looking to commit genocide. Well functioning democracies.

Dogs?
8-year-old lab - my shadow.
6-year-old border collie - slightly neurotic, barks at everything.
They have successfully kept the school squirrel-free for many years!
(Shotgun in the closet (unloaded) in case of emergency)

A few reasons....grew up with a couple is one reason yes.
Females.
Named them Ginger and MaryAnn lol.
Plus I like the breed and the look.
I also like the intimidation factor if the lady is on her own....
