Sprong is 27 years old and has played for:
Pittsburgh - 2 seasons
Anaheim - 2 seasons
Washington - 2 seasons
Seattle - 2 seasons
Detroit - 1 season
Vancouver - next season
Insert other team here - 2025-26 season
Don’t blow your load.

It’s a contract for 1 year, near league minimum, for a guy who has scored 39 goals over the past 2 years with almost no ice time. Nobody is going nuts but if you’re not happy about this I don’t know what to tell you. Free scoring depth - why not?

Old Fart and Butthead have an apparent knack for rag-picking and finding gems in the bargain bin. Sprong is a low-risk bet, and who knows where he’ll fit in the lineup? Training camp will be competitive, if nothing else.

I don't think we will see Sprong in our top 6 Cherry.
Got a feeling we ain't done fabricating here....
I have never paid attention to Sprong. But 100 points over 2 seasons ain't bad. So, what is so wrong with his game that he takes a contract usually reserved for scrubs?

It's pretty well detailed in the thread Tciso.
In summary:
-2 way game lacking
-no PK ability for a bottom 6
-non-aggro/physical

One interesting note about Sprong is that fans of the wings, Krwcken and Caps seem to feel he was/will be missed.
Usually these defensive liability types (like what we are thinking we are getting) will have fans happy to see him gone. That bodes well considering the pittance paid to acquire

I find it peculiar with his offensive numbers the last two seasons with two different teams why those two teams couldn’t be bothered in retaining his services??? And. Why he isn’t highly sought after in the “open” market. Ending up with a pittance for a contract?

He's a one dimensional scorer Chef. To me this resembles the signing of CC forum favorite Alex Chiasson.
If Sprong delivers more than ol' 'Chaser" did, then consider it a bonus.

Fills more of a need than the slug Chiasson ever did in my view Megs.
He could stand in front of the net and (hopefully) have pucks bounce in off his ass.
Sprong has obvious puck skills as well as wheels.
He can score off the rush and with his shot which is very good.
It was clear in the post season we needed team speed upgrades.
He does this.
There is no negative side to this signing.
Dude is being purposefully contrarian...
Imesho....

You brought back my PTSD with the mention of the Chaser, Megs.
Sprong brings an element that none of our current guys have... speed with some consistent pop at a fraction of the price of the departed Mikheyev. Very astute signing, worth the gamble.

Chaser was deadly from two feet Donny

Fair comment Megs.
Only problem was by the time he actually arrived there play had moved to a different zone.

In homage to his foot speed I think Sprong's moniker should be Scooter.
From Chaser to Scooter. Who likes it?
