This will go down in canuck lore (with Naslund for Stojanov and White for Ehrhoff) as one of the best moves ever made in franchise history

Crazy stuff! A different one..October but looks more likely.....https://www.oddsshark.com/nhl/stanley-cup-futuresThe Brown Wizard wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 6:49 am So Moneypuck (whatever tf that is) has us waaaay down the list just below Chicago with odds on making the playoffs. Obviously losing Capt Dooshbag should have us jumping over them but still...thats pretty bad. I can only surmise that they must give far more credit to Markstrom for the teams success last year than anything else.
Just take a look at Minnesota ffs! How the fuck did they get slotted so far up their?

Yes, there are more than Tanev and Toffoli’s contracts in bad contracts. But then you missed my point about Odysseus ordering himself tied to the mast. Signing those complimentary players at their ages to long term contracts could fit for this year but not future years. And I just don’t think those deals would have made sense (Tanev might have without the Vegas trade but would still be a risk).Doyle Hargraves wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 7:01 am Point was UW, that the shitty contracts have fucked the team more than COVID. Could have easily retained Tanev and Toffoli without a couple of the useless pieces of shit taking up space on the 4th line.
+1Chef Boi RD wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 10:16 am Let’s not lose sight of the fact that Tanev and Markstrom are 30 plus players who just signed multi year contracts. Aren’t we wanting Benning to stop handing out big contracts to old dudes, or old dudes with a history of injuries? I’m seeing a bit of a wanting your cake and eating it to here. I imagine Pettersson and Hughes unpredicted lightning quick evolution into elite NHL players changed the off season plan a hair, the wake up call on realizing the two of them will be due big ass contracts in a very short while has had an impact on how to manage the cap “long term”. The short term thinking is no more here

I don’t think covid fucked the Canucks all that much given that everything about the cap is comparative and most competitive teams were having to make adjustments, limited in their opportunities for improvement. So I guess I agree that bad contracts affect the Canucks more than the flat cap, but I think that going into the season the team is better off this year than last, so I am not sure how it is they might be considered fucked....

You do realize the difference between the two situations I hopeHockey Widow wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 11:35 am Should have traded Tanev and Markstrom at the TD! He learned nothing from the Hamhuis fiasco.
Big difference between rebuilding and contending. Danny wasn't one for waiving good-bye anyways.Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 11:35 am Should have traded Tanev and Markstrom at the TD! He learned nothing from the Hamhuis fiasco.
When in qualifications for the playoffs? I gather this is sarcasmHockey Widow wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 11:35 am Should have traded Tanev and Markstrom at the TD! He learned nothing from the Hamhuis fiasco.
