If EP moves, it would have to be for a haul of assets...it does not have to be for a center as discussed in the media, because they might be looking at Raty being close as a 2/3 pivot for that spot…

Both of D-Pete and McWard are bottom-pairing NHL’ers. At least for the first season or so. Willander is not Hughes, and we have to remember this. He has just as much a chance (if not more) of being a bust at the NHL level as he does a career top-4. I’d say all 3 of those guys are at least 2 years away from being meaningful NHL contributors in the roles we hope to see them in.

Raty didn’t look like a guy who was going to move the needle in the top-6 by next season.

Management fucked this up royally in the age spread and contract commitments. I’m smelling Aqualung impatience all over this right now. They saw where we were going into December last season and rolled the dice on Zadorov, and the Lindholm a couple months later. Double down on an already struggling, and yet holding out, young center, and then got bit by injuries in the playoffs.

Shot was shot. Wasn’t a bad shot considering the odds at winning in this league.

Now they have two options. Triple down on their decisions and sell the fuck out of the future, or recognize that hitting on 18 busted and that this iteration of the team is on the cusp of becoming what the 2013 team was…..too old to re-tool around the core. Right now they can make some SMART decisions and re-tool (not rebuild) around a few in-house pieces, most notably Hughes.

This just doesn’t seem to be their year, this season.

If it does, keep an eye on New Jersey for either player. They have assets and player pieces the Canucks could find attractive, and at the moment are on track to have about $7.469 million in deadline day salary cap space, according to PuckPedia.

I hadn’t heard much of anything about NJ being a destination for either of them. I’m not sure what the attractive pieces are for the Canucks, but if you’re hoping to keep the current build around Hughes, gotta think brother Luke would be the most sought after piece in any return. He’s not a RSD, but he’s a young guy that should be a top-3 for years to come.

I think they've been very patient in this.

11 months since Pettersson was a top-line play driver. They extended him and tried to find a winger for him. They've let him try and work this out.

Miller has been off since September.

Soucy, Desharnais, Myers, Brannstrom, Juulsen, and Friedman, have been a disaster.

Heinan took a while to find his footing.

The team that won the Pacific Division last year, and lost to the eventual SC Finalists by virtue of injuries to the starting goaltender, top-line winger, and the psychological collapse of their top-flight center, is now 1 point outside of the playoff picture and barely treading water.

While injuries are indeed part of the reason for this, I think that many management groups would have made a move by now.

Hey Mëds, they have to be patient, a lot of this mess is on them. You have great points of which I agree on. My concern that they make a bad trade. Do not move the 1st unless 23 or younger player comes back. No rentals.

I prefer to miss the playoffs and be sellers at TDD for once to get as many picks they can.

Yeah the more this season goes on the more i think Petey and Miller are both trying to play through injuries.
I also advocate keeping the picks and letting the season play out.
If playoffs become out of reach our 2 C's should be excused to properly heal and rehab for next season (unfortunately it'll never happen)

I don’t buy the injury thing.

If playoffs are the goal, you don’t bring back the guys you need until they are ready.

Just like last season, I don’t buy the knee tendinitis story. Playoffs were locked up? Then you sit an injured star player to let them rest and recover so you’ve got them as close to 100% as possible for the post-season grind.

If EP40 is actually hurt (again) right now then sit him til he’s healthy and then ship his ass out. You need core players who you can count on to be available.
