Retain heavy on Hughes and even take another expiring bad contract back.
I like this package better, but there's no way of knowing if it was ever on the table.
Word is Canucks asked for Edvinsson as part of the package and Detroit said no.
If this is true, it has the advantage for the sanity of Canucks fans of bracketing the market value of Hughes around the League:
as much as the Canucks actually got, but not so much as that.

As it is, I'm fairly confident that they got the most that could be had. Fans always over-value the player that they had. I am reading that not all the Minnesota fans are happy with this deal.

They'll be happy when they're in the WCF.

They have 2 of the top 10 players in the league, a top 5 d and solid 1 2 punch in net with a now enhanced ability to drive offence...

Reading the comments in The Athletic yesterday, the Minnesota fans are all bitching and whining about the trade. The Minnesota fans are idiots.

When Hughes starts creating more space than Kaprizov has ever had in his hockey life, nobody in Minnesota is going to be complaining.
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..

Send Sherwood to a team that the Wild will be battling in the playoffs just to piss him off.
The only HW the Canucks need

Sherwood for somebody's 20 or 21 yr old tough winger for the 3rd line. We need a Cooke with character.

Chef, how many prospects fit that description?

With new management in Buffalo seemingly looking to remake the club dynamic, I wonder if Rutherford and Allvin can further along the rebuild by grabbing certain young players Kekalainen may make available? If management wants to purge Petey, would Buffalo take him in return for whatever players Buffalo wants out - problem for problem? Perhaps management can convince Petey to waive his NMC in that event?

Otherwise, perhaps Buffalo provides opportunities if management has a player or two in mind over there.

Some talk has him asking 9/10.

Clearly he's looking 7 years at that number.

I don't see that value there if true.
