Is Doyle still being angry over not drafting Matthew Tkachuk?

Can Doyle get through a Thursday without turning it into a “Thirsty Thursday”?

When was the last time Doyle showed up to work on a Friday not stinking of booze?

If Loui is on the books for another year, it does hurt our chances to re-sign the trio of Toffoli, Tanev + Marky.
When I do the math, I think getting rid of Loui allows begging to sign Marky, Tanev and Toffoli. If he can find a taker for Sutter, he probably has the cap space to add in UFA.

There's definitely better, cheaper options in the org to replace what Loui brings (Sven would have double the points with Loui's ice time, plus Leivo, Lind, McEwan will all fight for a spot in camp). Sutter will be harder to replace from within, and Gaudette ain't there yet - once again this year, Bo's offensive production jumps when Sutter is in the lineup.

How exactly do we "get rid" of Loui? He likely has zero trade value unless we attach a sweetener, which means giving up a valuable piece (not a great idea). We can buy him out but that adds a cap hit for at least 2-3 years. Can we send him to the minors, like Sven? I don't know how Benning will pull this off.

Three options that I could live with:
1. Trade with a minor sweetener after his bonus is paid to cap floor team;

2. He gets the Hossa treatment, LTIR due to dandruff or something;

3. He retires and/or mutually terminates after seeing that getting an offensive role this year didn't make him desirable other teams on his current contract.

I believe #3 is possible as the only explanation for why he hasn't been demoted after his trade request. Benning agreed to give him a bona fide opportunity to produce so that another team would take him, on the agreement that if Loui doesn't produce as necessary, he will remove himself from the equation. If Loui had been demoted near the TDD, he likely would have refused to report a la Bogosian.

The fact that this route wasn't taken mid-season (and with no opportunity for such hardball tactics until next training camp) makes me believe there is some handshake agreement on Loui's future.

I think it would be more than a mini sweetener to move the cap hit regardless of how much cash is owed. I don’t consider Demko to be a minor sweetener.

When is the last time a team took on a huge cap hit (but low money owing) contract? I’m curious if there are any legit comparisons. The Bolland one was a poor comparison because the cap hit was only live in the summer and insurance would have been paying a huge amount of his salary.

I would think an acquiring manager would want a significant cheap piece or pick attached to Loui. He still takes up a massive chunk of cap space. You could sign three cheap effective veterans to 2 million dollar contracts and flip them for assets at the deadline. You take Loui and you’re stuck with him. Nobody wants him or the cap hit.

Yes; and I can see it too. That mop must be hellish to maintain and the sheer weight alone, my gosh. Serious dandruff could be past around
the dressing room when he, with the help of the poor trainer, removes it after the games. LTIR is a reasonable, conscientious solution.

I'm all for a longish hair style, have almost always had one myself, but ole Louis? The often publicized photos kind of speak for themselves.

Ick.

Ya I agree, I was listing what would be palatable to me, I'm not prepared to give up a major asset to move him - I would sooner play hardball by demoting him.

What will help and change things these next few months is the road to the playoffs and the playoffs itself where some players stock can rise and fall, lets hope Sutter and Loui can up their veteran game then.

I'm stuck as to what to do with Markstrom and Demko.

The expansion draft is in 2021 and we can only protect one goalie.

What would the Penguins, Capitals, Blackhawks do if they were in this situation and had a really young core to build around, like when Crosby/Malkin - Kane/Toews - Ovechkin/Backstrom were all in their early 20's and had a 30 year old UFA goalie and a young buck goalie cost controlled who has shown spurts of brilliance in his 2nd NHL season (basically first real season).

As Pettersson/Boeser/Hughes are all young bucks and got a good 10-18 years of contending ahead of them.

I'd wager those top tier contender teams would go with the young fella, focusing on the long-term contender status.
And they'd probably trade Marky's rights after the season is done.

Those are the hard decisions a GM must make for the good of the franchise while thinking BIG picture.

They tried to gather so much talent that the loss of a single player wouldn't hurt the overall team while letting a certain element of their fan bases contemplate suicide, battle depression, spew jizz all over the boards and fail to follow any kind of logic while losing sleep over an event they'd have no control of.
