They were eager to teach Zach Hyman a thing or two. And wanted to tutor Nurse.

They could at least use some Haken Loob on Hitchcock, instead of just sticking it in draisaidl into the team's Darren Puppa

Well, when we had Mein Kampf in the Canucks' bookstore, he certainly wasn't on the best-seller's list.

I think SJ would have to add -
Zary's career was side tracked by injuries. He is a middle 6 forward at best. I had high hopes for him (rose coloured glasses syndrome) when he was drafted. His first season he looked like he was going places. He seems to have plateaued after his injuries. Still a useful forward but needs a change of scenery.

Hathaway (half of salary retained) and a 6th to Florida for a 4th and a 5th.
That's the kind of deal that gets the blood going!

Caps trade Lapierre to Pens for a 3d and a 5th.
Lapierre has yet to become an impact player in the NHL. Last year at age 23 he got the games in — over 70 — but had less than 20 points and just 4 goals. The playmaking skills don’t seem good enough for the leap to the nhl, but he might have enough two way ability to be a depth player. A 3d and 5th for a decent shot at that and sliver of a chance there’s more is okay. Honestly think the Pens are decent at this, so more likely than if the Canucks did the same.
Still, Lapierre was 22d overall in his draft season. A sober reminder.

Are you saying that we all need to start drinking, and don't stop til after the draft is over? Intoxicated reminders are way more fun.

Re: AROUND THE LEAGUE - 25-26
When Nichuskin is not taking personal leaves of absence or getting suspended (a different kind of Colorado powder?), he's still a pretty effective player. But the production rate dropped last year and he was basically a no show in the playoffs.
This isn't a crazy price to pay for the player, though. Still a top 6 wing. There's an age decline to be expected here, but that's not so bad at that cap hit given where the cap is going. The bigger question is whether he's past all of the troubles -- injuries and conduct. Bigger news for the Canucks is that it probably eliminates one potential Boeser destination. Though I'm not sure I want to trade Brock at that return -- I mean, I think that return is reasonable, but I also think he'll maintain that kind of value a couple of seasons and the Canucks benefit from his kind of skill set in the lineup to help the centers develop. (I'd focus on moving DeBrusk if Boeser's not bringing back a first (and he's probably not, but we've seen some crazy things).
Also, Nichuskin is one of those draft unicorns who didn't impress until he was 26 and didn't really stick until Age 24. After getting drafted 10th overall, he started right away with the Stars. He had a pretty good year -- 34 points in 79 games. 18 years old. The next season was marred by injuries limiting him to a handful of games between the NHL and AHL. Those nondescript hip groin injuries. Warning! In season 3 he came back, but his production was less than year 1. And so he disappeared to Russia to play a couple of seasons before coming back to Dallas and remarkably failing to score a single goal in 57 games. The Stars didn't qualify him. No shock. The Avs signed him, and he played two seasons as a decent depth piece before taking off in his age 26 season and being a critical part of the Avs cup run. And in that season he looked like, well, what a good 10 OA pick might look like.
Hmmm, have the Canucks ever had a quick trigger finger on a 10 OA pick from Russia?
Also -- all the trades today seem really standard in terms of types of player and the value of the return. The crazy buyers may be out of the market....

@UW yes the prices seem to be settling into more familiar territory today, and yeah, it's hard to put a price on someone like Nichushkin. But they didn't give up anything that's going to set them back much. and really, CBJ has had a tendency to overpay to get anything done, so not too bad. Also, it really sounds like Werenski will be traded and that should reset the crazy again.
And, Wild owner Leopold is saying they will sign Quinn Hiughes, it's just a matter of for what term at this stage.
