Per....have you provided the board a scouting report on Stenberg?
No, I haven’t. As Björklöven is in the second tier league, I don’t really follow the SHL very closely.
Now, when the Canucks drafted Elias Pettersson, I made sure to watch his games, but normally I don’t follow that league.
Now, hopefully this will change.
29 games into the season Björklöven has only lost three games, two of those in regulation.
We’re in the lead, 13 points ahead of Kalmar in second place, 19 points ahead of Modo, in fourth place, who are the team that got demoted from the SHL last season. We look unstoppable, but it’s the playoffs that decide who gets promoted, so we shouldn’t start counting our chickens yet, or as the Swedish saying goes; don’t sell the skin before you’ve shot the bear. But I am unusually hopeful.
Of course, the last time the team played this well, the season was called off because of a pandemic and there was no relegation between the leagues. We worry what it might trigger this time. A russian invasion?
But I digress.
Stenberg looks like the real thing. I mean, he is basically a ppg player in a professional men’s league at age 18. That’s outstanding.
Last season, when he mainly played in the junior league, he had 26 goals and 53 points in 27 games in the top Swedish U20 league! That’s almost two points per game! He also had 64 points in 36 games on the international U18 level. There’s a reason he is ranked so highly by all the scouting agencies. But I haven’t seen much of him. Only highlights, as I don’t follow the games.
But I’m sure we’ll see a lot of him at the World Juniors.
And hopefully I’ll see him play against Björklöven next season.
