What position does McKenna usually play?
Wing, but he’s what you call a playmaking winger. Plays the wing like a centre.
Chef, I thought you might be interested to know that Gavin McKenna isn't exactly lighting it up at Penn State
Keaton Verhoef is seemingly outshining him at North Dakota, and there's talk of him moving into the favourite position to go first
He’s finding his way. Apparently the team is struggling to find linemates for him who match his skill level, but he’s scored goals in back to back games the last two games. He’s starting to catch fire. You kind of saw it coming with all the hype leading up to the season this summer, it was over the top, felt bad for him. But it’s going to be a great learning experience for him playing with older players, fast track his maturity. He’s still putting up good points for an NCAA rookie. Verhoeff is a man already as well as Martone whom like Verhoeff is playing well to.
Looks like Seattle stole a player in Jake O’Brien, he’s having a helluva season in the OHL
Belchetz, the giant is having a great start to his season in the OHL and will be in the top 5 mix.
Ryan Lin is on fire in the WHL and will be in the top 5 mix.
Mathis Preston and Roobroeck are having slow starts.
Btw, what’s the deal with the so-called 2027 draft class phenom - Landon DuPont? Nowhere to be found, a pretty bland season he’s having for an overly hyped player.

That's good to hear. The thing that puzzled me about McKenna is the decision to go to Penn State. Penn State has never produced a player who has played more than 25 NHL games. Of course McKenna had his pick of schools, he could have gone anywhere. That was a head scratcher for me. It seems like they just went after a couple of extra bucks.

Penn did make it to the frozen four last year, so they are on the rise - an NCAA championship would go a long way to padding a resume. They were also far and away the biggest offer for his NIL package, all said, just under 1 million according to his family.

Thanks, JPP. I figured they must have offered a boatload of cash. I realize they went to the final four last year, and that's great and all, but it isn't the same thing as producing NHL players. Their lack of results in developing players is actually shocking.
Shoulda gone to a pedigreed hockey program like Michigan or Michigan State imesho.

Yeah, that was puzzling for sure. I sure hope it wasn’t about money. Not a good sign if money was the deal breaker, pretty short sighted for such a hyped player who will end up making a helluva lot more if he is as good as the hype. That being said, they lured Blue Jackets top prospect Jackson Smith and Misa’s brother, too. Not sure what to make of it, didn’t Penn State have a good season last year?

The lack of graduating players into the NHL, shoulda been something McKenna to consider, top priority, not money. When reading up on players on why they pick certain colleges, they always mention - coaching staff, the program and history of the program.

Yes, they had a great season last year, went to the Frozen Four. No results developing NHL players in the entire history of the prrogram, though.
They've been successful with older guys though, not with blue chip prospects. You can build winners either way, but it's the Boston University, the Michigan's the North Dakota's with the elite teenagers that draw the interest and dot NHL rosters with players.

Absolutely Chef, extremely short-sighted on the adsviser's/parents part considering his potential future in the sport.
Parents played the short game.

Not sure about that Megs, they have only been in NCAA Div-1 since 2011... not a long time to be developing a huge roster of NHL graduates. Also, they have been on the rise, re-built their hockey dept., and facility a few years ago, and dropped an absolute ton of money into bringing in some players to compete for a title.
McKenna's feeling on Penn was they were in a very good position to succeed. Not just a pay day. And the Pegula facility is one of the best in the NCAA... edited to add.

Doesn't the Pegula family own the Buffalo Sabres JPP
Yeah I know, man, they've got tons of money and a great facility.
He didn't go there for their proven track record of developing hockey players.

The season ends now the Canucks would have the 6th best odds to drafting McKenna!
Let’s keep this train a rolling baby!
