Hopefully a sign of EP40 gaining confidence and getting his game back. We'll need it with 3 of our star players out.

General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today F Jonathan Lekkerimäki has been assigned to Abbotsford (AHL) and F Max Sasson has been recalled from Abbotsford (AHL).
I thought Lekkerimäki did ok in this short call up, but was pretty much invisible in the rags game.

I think this is the right move, Lekkerimaki needs more development and playing time. If he can continue to light it up, then maybe call him up after TDD and give him some games b4 playoffs. I still think we should have kept D.Sprong around though. With some key players out up front, it'd be nice to have a guy like him around with his experience and scoring touch.

So Sherwood has tied an NHL record for most 10+ hits per game in a season. The previous record was 3 games with 10+ hits. He matched that last night. I think it is safe to assume he will break that record. He is also on pace to set the record for most hits per season.

I think they are getting more from him that they had hoped. He is proving he can play in a top six role as well. I also think he will drop them if someone takes too many liberties with Pettersson which may help Petey play looser.

Sherwood playing like a human cannon ball, while only taking 3 minor penalties to date.

Impressive...

Hopefully he keeps his body healthy.

That is a good deal of wear and tear early.

Yah, hopefully our mgmt has found another diamond in the rough with Sherwood as they did with DJ81. I think for the first time, we're able to give EP40 a couple wingers who have talent, but also have a bit of grit to their games as well (more so Sherwood). Not just the usual list of small, skilled, dinky forwards (ie: Kuzzy, Goldobin, Baercheese, etc). It'd be great if they were power forward types, but Debrusk and Sherwood still have decent mass to their frames. CanucksArmy was calling them the DPS line (Debrusk-Petey-Sherwood), it'll be interesting to see how they fare in the next few games on the road.

Man, surprised nobody mentioned this in the game day thread. That hit by EP40 on Stuzle was a beaut! I get pumped seeing Petey do a hit like that over a highlight reel goal. It's a great sign that Petey is competing hard, highly engaged and stepping up his game with JT's absence. Hopefully it's another sign that the old Alien mode EP40 is back! :D

Petey is looking more confident each game. When he is playing physical it is usually a sign that he is engaged full on. Can't help think his line mates help him play bigger to. Once he gets his alien dangles back into games then we will know he is baaaack.

The physicality (for EP40) has been there all season, and it was there when his play was declining at the end of last year. (But he has never really delivered an open ice hit as good as the one on Stutzle). His play has improved because he’s used his legs more. He still could use more urgency in his game in non-rush situations (his play on rushes has been very good I think), but his line has been good over the past couple weeks and he has points to show for it.

The physicality I’d like to see from him next is more strength on the puck. When the Sedins came into the league, we drank when they fell down, it was so common (and we wanted to drink). But around 25-26 years old, they had turned the corner completely and were near Jagr-like or Forsbergian in their puck protection and stability. I don’t expect EP40 to get there ever, but if he’s not going to be urgent and create chances with chaos, he must control to capitalize on patience.

With the Sedins, you could tell almost the exact moment they broke out. For about 2 years prior, they were cycling in their phonebooth in the corner, facing the boards, having massive possession numbers. Then one game, they turned around, saw the rest of the ice, and started dumping sweet feeds to who-ever was open. EP might not get to the same place, but he brings a level of hitting that the Sedins couldn't match, even as a single unit.

I noted the Petey hit on Divin' Timmy when I saw it because it wasn't your typical Petey reverse-check or something like that. He made that hit with the intention of knocking Stutzle on his ass for effect. We barely saw that kind of hit before.

I don't look at it through the prism of Petey getting out of his funk - I think he's almost there anyway, and I agree that the final manifestation is when he has that more authoritative possession and handling of the puck in the O-zone. The other aspects of his game (defensive responsibility, intercepting pucks, etc.) have always been there this season to varying degrees. I agree that as he moves his legs, gets faster out there and stronger on his stick and skates he will hit his stride offensively.

Alternatively, I look at that hit as part of the Club's drive to take Pettersson to the next level. You look at that hit in light of Petey's practice skirmish with Miller and apparently being told to "stop being a baby", as well as some alleged 'tough-love' from coaching staff and teammates early on in the season, and this may be part of a process to get Petey playing more competitive "FU" hockey. He's always been competitive - in his own fashion - but not confrontational, and I think it's that direction where the club wants to see him go moving forward.

I see it as a sign of promise for Petey because it appears to signal that Petey is trying to buy into what the organization wants to to do and willingly go outside his comfort zone. I would rather Petey add some "FU" to his game vice the Sedin "turn-the-other-cheek-and-score-on-the-PP" attitude.
