good'ol'Hf habs fans are wanting to go all in for the Cup, not saying all, but been seeing more habs fans wanting the Sedins for their cup run.

So blow it all up.

Sedins 50% (7m) + Edler (5m) for Plekanec (6m), Emelin (4.1m), McCarron (865k), Juulsen, a 1st and a 3rd.

When Shanahan took over the leaves he took a look at us (Sabres) and decided our plan was the best strategy for the leaves too. The leaves rebuild is longer than ours but the TANK stage of theirs is a year behind ours.

What would be a kick in the teeth to us (buffalo) is if they have outdrafted us, some of that is luck, they won the lottery the only year they were dead last. We finished dead last two years and never won the 1st overall. One of those years was a ho-hum draft at the top, we got Reinhart.

The leaves the next year get the 4th overall pick and Mitch Marner is sitting there, take away Marner's size and he belongs in the conversation with Eichel, Mathews, Laine and he's proving his size isn't going to be an issue. If Mathews/Marner turn out better than Eichel/Reinhart it's not Murray's fault, just the way things worked out, luck.

They have a lot of money coming off their cap this summer, lots of money to get some much needed quality dmen.

The lottery is such a crap shoot on where you draft, Sabres dead last two times and never won it, granted they were purposely tanking......................AT LEAST the Canucks are trying to compete with a younger roster mixed with some vets, so if we do come last, we can hold our heads high that we weren't pathetically purposely tanking.

Shitty when you lose the draft lotto though, like last year from 3rd overall with a chance to get 1st/2nd oa to ending up 5th overall.

But yeah they don't call it a lottery for nothing.

It's been said countless times but a big key to a successful rebuild is not just the 1st-5th overall picks you get for finishing in the gutter, but the picks throughout the draft as well.

A huge reason the Oilers rebuilds consistently failed was their inability to get anything out of the draft after their first pick. Pretty sure Oscar Klefbom is the only decent guy they've gotten after pick-1 in like 10 years. Compare that to the 2002-2007 Blackhawks, where guys like Bolland, Bickell, Brower, Byfuglien, Hjarlmarson, Crawford and Keith were in the system before rock-bottom and the Toews-Kane years.

Benning's 2014 draft looks real good, and if we get 1-2 more like that, maybe when the bottom really falls out (if it isn't already), we might have a nice stable for our version of the Kane-Toews drafts.

Agree with this, Ray Ferraro keeps saying it as well, not quality, it's quantity in the picks. I could care less where we pick if we are a lottery team, depth wins. You are drafting 18 year old boys, roll the dice, it's a crap shoot, but the more picks you have, greater the odds. I'm not a great fan of Bennings dealings of later round picks but I do get the idea of fixing that thin mid age gap between the old core and Bennings draft picks. A tough job but hopefully he's done with that.

I do believe that next season will be the real year of transitioning from the Sedin era to the Horvat era. This years trade deadline should be the one where we move UFA vets like Miller and Burrows for draft picks. Next year we should see Virtanen. Boeser, Juolevi. Demko making big pushes to make the team. I believe we have a good core of mid age vets to guide them, not to mention all of them with the exception of Virtanen have their heads screwed on right. Could see a big trade with one of our D like Edler, Sbisa or maybe even Gudbranson with Juolevi coming. I'd be shocked if Tanev or Hutton is traded. Think it would be dumb

Yeah I didn't delve into the depth picks, but agreed, why I like Benning' drafting, every round he finds some gems, just some potential solid hockey players.

I have much faith in JB in regards to drafting, finding diamonds in the rough, and dealing with other GMs.

If there is going to be a problem, it will be with ownership insisting on temporary, splashy moves that can F--k-up everything, ie; Kane and such things.

Trevor is absolutely and totally going to have to support his GM's ideas and be as strong as humanly possible with ownership in order for this to work.

If JB has to work with a double standard, we'd be F--ked, as it were.
