Re: The Official CC "All Thing Leaves" thread
Some interesting shenanigans (Or Shanahanigans?) from the Big Smoke - Corrado is sent down on a "conditioning loan", even though he's not hurt.
Bill Daly says the move has the League's blessing.
If this is allowed, it gives a lot of teams with 18/19-year-olds on the roster to get a bit of an extra look-see by sending them down for 2 weeks - look at what a difference the post-injury stint in Utica did for Bo.

It's always been allowed has it not if the player hasn't played? I think the reasoning is do it once for a non injury to get the guy a few games because you want to get him into your line up. I doubt they could do this as a musical doors type of policy.
The only HW the Canucks need
Re: The Official CC "All Thing Leaves" thread
Daly's comments make it seem like its always been allowed, but I've never heard of it happening before (and I'm guessing that article's author hadn't either by the tone of the article). Plus, Frankie has only sat out 6 games. So has Weber - can we send him to Utica? Can we sit McCann for 6 games then send him to Utica for 2 weeks?Hockey Widow wrote: It's always been allowed has it not if the player hasn't played? For that matter, could we have let Corrado ride the pine for 6 games and then sent him down without exposing to waivers??

Re: The Official CC "All Thing Leaves" thread
I'm thinking we'll have our shot at Corrado again if we want him. Given our current roster situation, there's still no space for him here... might as well let the Lauffs jump through the hoops and retain our right to re-claim him if/when he hits waivers later in the season.
He can only stay down there for 14 days. It's not like they can keep him there indefinitely. The Preds did this a couple years ago with McGrattan.
As for the 19 year olds, the Sabres tried this with Grigorenko and get busted due to the NHL-CHL transfer agreement. So in Bo's case, since he was coming back from injury it was okay, but if he just had been in the press-box they would have had to send him back to London. Seems kind of weird, but I'm guessing if Corrado was junior-eligible, he woudln't be making this trip (nor would he ever have been on waivers, obviously). I'm sure the big worry is that teams start keeping guys like Virtanen on the squad, give him 1-2 games, sit him for a week, send him to the AHL on a "conditioning stint" for 2 weeks, play him a couple more NHL games, back on "conditioning". You could really retain your young prospects for months before that 9-game window is up.

Remember when that guy said the Leaves were intentionally tanking?
I guess Lamoriella didn't get the message :
The commitment to winning every night is there.
I doubt the Leaves even get a top-5 pick this season, Babs is not the coach to take you to the tank.

.....and bountiful talks of Scrivens being an upgrade for themAfter stopping 23-of-25 shots in a 3-1 loss against the New York Rangers on Friday night, head coach Mike Babcock confirmed that Bernier would once again be between the pipes on Saturday when the club takes on the Pittsburgh Penguins. Babcock said Friday's performance versus the Rangers was Bernier's "best night (in goal) of the year."
Today is a great day to be in a goalie graveyard.

Can it get any better than this. The Laughs are screwed, the Nucks win, the Lions win and Trump is sinking in the polls. Life is sweet

I can't see Babcock allowing that to happen, the tank that is. RIght now Matthews looks to be going to Calgary. Wouldn't that be great McDavid in Edmonton and Matthews in Calgary.olpaddy wrote:Its going to be a tough day or maybe a not so tough day for our erstwhile Doctor Strangelove.... The Canucks will do the ususal and squeeze into the playoffs get knocked out in the first round and be drafting around 22nd overall. Not get anything for pending UFA's Hamhius and Vrbata at the deadline cause we will still be in it.

yup can't see Babcock being happy with any kind of tanking, so the leaves might be stuck in limbo of trying to get better asap, instead of a proper rebuild.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

When Nazem Kadri is your best player Mike Babcock might not have a choice in allowing the tanking to happen cause that line up isn't very good Pacific Blue... Mark Arcobello,Richard Klune,Peter Holland,Leo Komarov,P.A Parenteau,Daniel Winnik,Brad Boyes etc...RoyalDude wrote:I can't see Babcock allowing that to happen, the tank that is. Like I said there are alot of Leaf Haters on this board but for the love of god they are horrible and there is no need to tank cause they aint that good to begin with add in Tyler Bozak,Lupul,Grabner, & Van Reimsdyk and thats your 2015-2016 Forward group... Austin Mathews & Steven Stamkos are coming Pacific Blue...
