The 'new" regime isn't new. Think it is funny that RJ said we need all these vets so we don't get our asses handed to us, or punched in the gut every game. That is exactly what is happening.
I advocate playing the younger Finn and let him have a run to see if he is what we need down the road. Buy out the older Finn when Demko is back. Unless you can trade him for a bag of pucks with minimal retention, if he agrees to waive.
Set up trade deadline deals as early as January if you can.
Speaking of feel good stories, never though DPetey was really NHL caliber but I have been impressed with him this season. I am impressed that he wants to be the next Luke Schenn and with his O abilities he is beginning to show.

We cannot bury him in the minors, ever. Even a MNC means no waivers. A NTC is different. So his trade protection drops to a limited number of teams but he does not give up the NMC for waivers.Madcombinepilot wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2026 6:12 pmI agree we are getting clobbered every game, but Vets can help youngsters get over the repeated clubbings. {edit} -- no buy outs of Diesel. We are better off riding out his contract, burying him in the minors when the NMC lets up next year. I dont want to be paying that prick in 2032 when we are trying to compete. Last regime made that mistake, this one better not.

I don’t think that’s right. Typically, once the NMC ends, and the 15 team M-NTC kicks in next season, they can waive him to Abbotsford. They still have to pay his full one way salary, but he wouldn’t take up a roster spot. I’m pretty sure that’s how it works unless there is something special in Lankinen’s contract.

If his NMC shifts to a modified no trade clause then yes, you are correct he can be waived. If it shifts to a modified no movement clause then he cannot. Either way it shifts to a 15 team no trade list. So the question is, is it a MNT or a MNM. I have seen it written as both so I am not sure. I'm actually not sure if it is a 15 no trade or a 15 trade to list. Good question. Where is Doc when we need him.Picker of Cherries wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2026 8:50 pm I don’t think that’s right. I'll try to research a bit cause I want to know. If it is a MNT then ya I'd keep him and waive him and hopefully he gets picked up or at least we have a good AHL goalie down there. The cap won't be a problem for us for awhile yet.

Re: Canucks News N Notes 26-27
So it seems you are correct. As of July 1st 2027 he has a 15 no trade list so a M-NTC. Hronek has a 15 no trade list July 1st 2028 so a M-NTC.
Indeed Lankinen can be waived after July 1st. So can they find a way to keep all three goalies until July 1st or do they have a frank discussion with him now and tell him he is gone so he either waives now or gets waived next season?
Pettersson meanwhile has a full NMC for the duration of his contract.
Boeser's M-NTC kicks in 29-30, 15 team no trade
Debrusk has a M-NTC 15 team no trade July 1, 2027.
So worse case we can trade Lankinen and Debrusk after July 1 2027. The following year Hronek and the year after that Boeser.

I think that’s the way to go. If they have no trade value waive them to Abbotsford as new prospects push them out. Tolopilo should have already replaced Lankinen if he didn’t have the NMC. Hopefully some will waive to be traded before that if any team show trade interest along the way. They really need to keep players with NMC off the team until the rebuild is done. Once waived the Canucks should suck it up and pay their salaries as they toil in Abbotsford since they don’t have cap concerns right now. When hopefully they are good again they can have their contracts cleared instead of limiting themselves with a bunch of buyouts that hang around for years.

I don't think that is "worst case". Unless someone wants out, and totally waives their NMC, waiting for them to expire makes sense. These NMCs expire at a reasonable pace for turning over the team. And, if we continue to grab guys to fill holes and dump, we will be looking for 5 or 6 players every season in addition to these 4. And, those kids will still need some veterans around them.Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2026 1:59 am So it seems you are correct. As of July 1st 2027 he has a 15 no trade list so a M-NTC. Best case, we add Cootes next year, then 2 or 3 more youth in 2028. We are calling it a rebuild for a reason. But, you can't tear down the entire old team until the raw materials for the next team are arriving. I mean, if we dump everything too fast, next year our #1 line could be Rossi Ohgren and Lekkerimaki. And Cootes, Karlsson and Cotter as our 2nd line?
Let's rebuild with purpose, not just speed.
In conclusion, Diesel is a horrible contract, but let's not panic sell the rest of them.
The Cup is soooooo ours!!!!!!!

Been doing some research and league player comparables for Boeser as he seems to me a relatively unmoveable asset (without sweetening beyond what we would want).....
For example...same draft year.
Would you rather have Brock or Timo Meier?

Ya I do think the status change of the trade clauses are nicely spread out. It also allows players who want, or know, they will likely be traded, to try to establish trade value. Like give a shit, play to the max potential, get noticed and move on earlier. But certainly next summer gives us freedom to move on from 2 of the vets. I dont expect significant assets in return.
Speaking of vets, Garland is off to a horrible start this season and has not become a fan favourite as he did here as the angry little elf.

Garland a product of his environment?
The shit show in Columbus appears rancid.
Looks to me like the team has semi quit on Bowness who may just need to temper his media enthusiasm a bit....

They tried trading him and couldn't. They had his agent try to find a deal and couldn't. They tried trading him again and couldn't. He scouted the FA market and couldn't find a team and settled for the Geriatric's overpayment on talent, underpayment on asking price.
A guy without the skills to play down the lineup.
Our teir II junior A squad plays more watchable hockey than the current Canuck squad.
