The likelihood of it escaping from a lab in a country with proper containment protocols is extremely low.

So the solution for Canada is the same as the one that would have worked last time: people travelling to Canada from a country, or on an airplane from a country, where the likelihood is noticeably higher wait in mandatory quarantine (not self-isolating at home) until they are cleared.

It could add a whole new revenue stream for the tourism sector: base-level quarantine, luxury quarantine, etc. Oh, and the penalties for breaking quarantine, or for facilitating someone else breaking quarantine, have to be absolutely terrifying, and enforcement has to be visible.

What's happening in France is rather confusing.

It started out as student protests against funding cuts to schools and universities. Mostly left wing.

Then it escalated and more and more people joined in, still mostly left wingers, but also joined by the looters who just like to join any protest to have an opportunity to smash things up and grab what they can.

And then the "Yellow Vest" movement joined.
Now, they are usually considered to be on the far right, but are a rather mixed group.
Their main concern tends to be that gas should be cheaper, but in parts of the movement there is also an anti-immigrant stance.

So now you have street riots organized by the far left and far right in unison.
Makes it kind of hard to get a grip on. Two groups that want very different things jointly attacking the government.
So you have both the Free Palestine and the Kick Out All Immigrants crowds participating.

Guess people are just not very happy with the status quo.
