I would suggest, in light of where the Blahcocks are as a team, that the ancillary benefits are perhaps not as secondary.

I also would add to your observation regarding Kane’s contract with Detroit (Kesler), that it was more than just the surgery, he was also mid-30’s coming off a year of low production to finish off his $10.5M contract. So the “show me” was more likely that than just post-op concerns.

I think if you are going to do a “show me” based upon health concerns that you don’t go 3 years. The team might want that if they actually believe the player will recover and attempt to leverage that into a very friendly AAV with term, but the player probably doesn’t sign for more than a couple. I suspect that Kane only signed that contract to play with DeBrincat (iirc Kane wasn’t happy when Chicago traded him to Ottawa).

I'm not sure if any of you follow the Vancouver Giants, but my buddy's grandson just got traded from the Edmonton Oil Kings to the Vancouver Giants. Rhys Pederson is a 6'-5", 205 lb. defensive defenseman.

Prefer the Hurricane/Panther strength in numbers methodology.

That's one reason I was not losing much sleep over Hughes.

Yah, I think this might be the best route to build a team as well, although if we happen to find a centre of Joe Sakic calibre, we gotta build around him with a bunch of solid NHLers who are tough to play against. Also find a couple of guys who are decent snipers, they don't have to be elite 50G guys, but maybe 25-40G guys who have a knack for scoring big goals. A guy like Brockstar6 has shown he can be that guy and maybe Lekkermaki23 as well.

If we can't find those guys, that's fine. Just focus on building depth throughout the lineup. The players don't have to be elite, but they have very good at what they do, fit into the system in whatever style we want to play and be tough to play against.

Why do people believe BC boys want to come home and play (at a home town discount too)?

The only players who do that are washed up vets and the Lil'Trojans of the league

Maybe not a big discount, but I can see some guys taking a bit of a cut. I think there's something to be said to have a guy who grew up luving the team and has a the blue & green tattooed on their butts. They luv the team like us and would be cool to have one of our own playing in our colours. Over the years, I can think of Cliffy Ronning and Hamhuis who were kinda those guys; Myers a bit as well. They were not elite, but still very good NHLers. Hopefully Caleb Malhotra can be that local guy with close to elite talent playing on our team. *fingers crossed*
