Leopold adamant the Wild will sign Hughes.

With the league moving toward the LeBron James, player induced team construction methodologies I'll be interested to see if he signs a 3 year deal (current (ish) Cup window for Minny) which would align closely with the future upcoming FA status of Luke and Jack.

Yeah, not a big fan of agents and players turning this league into the NBA, making every Canadian team except the Leaves into the Vancouver Grizzlies.

Bunch of Lebrons and Kevin Durants...

Yeah..can't recall the exact list but saw an anonymous survey of players had:

Florida
Vegas
Tampa
Dallas
Minnesota
Carolina
San Jose
..and..
Montreal

...as the top 8 destination spots.

...also saw that Brady Tkachquit is going to clear a cool 1.2 million
more cash in hand playing in Florida as compared to Ottawa.

Taxes? Definitely plays a role for some of this group, but then there are other low tax destinations not on the list (Nashville) and there are high tax teams on the list (San Jose, Montreal).

The strongest thread I see in the list is winning. The top 6 on the list have to be in the top 10 most likely to win the Cup next year. Montreal might make that cut as well. And Montreal and San Jose are the teams that are among the cream of the crop in terms of a bright future after a rebuild.

But winning and future doesn’t explain everything either. Colorado and Edmonton have to be in the Cup conversation so long as each team has 2 of the top 6 or 7 players in the league. And one might think Buffalo and Anaheim have futures as bankable as San Jose.

I don’t think we are seeing a LeBron NBA thing in the NHL. In the NBA, the *team* doesn’t matter; players are relatively more important (playing 80% of a game, not 30-40%), and the coordination of only two guys in the NBA will radically change a franchise. In the NHL, there are 2 teams that arguably have 2 of the best 5 players in the league on them (Edmonton and Colorado), and they have a single cup between them since Makar emerged to show for it.

So in the NHL, superstars still need a good foundation in the franchise to chase their titles. Superstars and stars are thus attracted to the best run franchises, which will already have good talent because they are well run. The spoils are just desserts.

And I just don’t lose any sleep over that, there’s not an ounce of “unfairness” and the path is clear to teams that want to join the group: run your team well, perception will change.

And look again at the list. Would Minnesota or Montreal have been on that list 5 years ago? Or even Florida. Hell, Carolina was well run and couldn’t keep players or sign who they wanted (mostly, I think, because one of the ways they were well run is that they wouldn’t overpay).

The destination teams will change as the standings do over time—slowly, but noticeably. Every year expect one or two of the top 8 destination teams to be swapped out.

LeBron in the sense as the players are now beginning to decide when to hook up and when/where to play together.

I.e. the Hughes clan who (after what I posted yesterday) it appears are setting up to play as a group as Quinn has told Leopold he will sign but short term only.

As far as your fair comment I'm with you.

Run a good positive franchise that has a chance to win and takes care of its players and you will have no issue fielding a competitive group.

The Hughes brothers are uniquely situated and motivated to play with one another. And they will likely take less to make that happen on a competitive team. The Sedins did with Vancouver.

But I don’t think that they are the norm of the new nhl. Not saying there isn’t a little shift at play….

Most hilarious thing would be for the Canucks to have a couple really good pieces in place, make a surprise appearance in the playoffs in 2029-2030 with the sky the limit, and have the money for all three….

Oh I think that bridge is nothing but ashes. Would be funny as hell - about as funny as Trump sucking his own dick on TV - and just as likely to happen.

My initial thought was that the Donald thinks he can do everything better than anyone else, so why wouldn’t he blow himself?

Aside from that, we all know that I know that you know I know you could always find some quality gash in a moment of need rather than resort to that.

Can we add Bains to this list somehow?

He should never be in the NHL ever again.
