I still think they take Malhotra. The recent reports they are headed in another direction are like a false propaganda campaign to "throw them off the scent". They probably didn't realize telegraphing your intentions way in advance could have negative consequences

What if the Malhotra stuff was misdirection all along? I'm probably wrong here, but to me, they decided on someone else when they hired Manny as their coach. That whole scenario with both of them here would be unmanageable in this city. Can you imagine the media? Caleb is already being asked about Manny 100 percent of the time heading into the draft. It would be a circus.Cousin Strawberry wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2026 8:57 pm I still think they take Malhotra. Even without the terrible family favortism optics, a franchise as bad as the Canucks with the 3OA pick in a relatively deep draft, can't afford not to take the BPA... and clearly Malhotra is not in the top 3 and a severe reach.
It's like 2018, we benefited and ended up with the best player simply because MTL and ARZ went with massive reaches to pick centers that weren't likely rated that high. Whether they drafted by positional needs or not, it was a terrible decision in both cases.
Just like we did with OJ in 2016, for whatever god-forsaken reason. Also, thank you Ken Holland.
If you can't land one of the wingers, then a big, game-changing RHD is the right choice. The only choice in my books.
Sick of 57 years of unimaginable fuck ups from this franchise. Do one thing right, TNFGs.
Please.

It'll be a circus when he arrives then settle down until his old man is canned...then it's time for second circus
Vancouver is already on their 57th circus Megs. It's only right if we bring in the father and son high wire act. The flying Malhotras!

You wanting Verhoeff Carl? Or Reid? I am hoping for the Reid kid I think since I'm pretty sure Stenberg is going to san joseCarl Yagro wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2026 9:24 pm Even without the terrible family favortism optics, a franchise as bad as the Canucks with the 3OA pick in a relatively deep draft, can't afford not to take the BPA... and clearly Malhotra is not in the top 3 and a severe reach.

Re: CC Draft Watch Party 2026 Friday June 26 @ 4 pm PDT
The only thing I worry about Reid is the whole 'Murican thing.
It seems clear (for now), Reid has the bigger upside. However, Verhoeff could possibly affect the game more in the Weber or Pronger mold.
This is obviously just murky crystal ball stuff. Who's really going to know until they've been in the league for 4-5 years ?
I'd be good with either.

It appears management is doing something right - free watch party, cheap burgers and drinks kudos to them
Don't fuck it up by not taking Verhoff

Meh. The 3OA is the easy pick. The next 3 will be the make or break of this draft.Cousin Strawberry wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2026 8:57 pm I still think they take Malhotra. IMHO Verhoeff & Bjork could be the steals at this years draft.
It's all about the lowered expectations
Re: CC Draft Watch Party 2026 Friday June 26 @ 4 pm PDT
Originally I was hoping for Verhoeff if the Canucks slid down to 3, would be happy with any of the top 3 rated D men. I would stay away from Maholtra but that Swedish center is tempting.
Also hope the Canucks can trade DeBrusk for another 1st either this trade for next year’s.

Let's just trade the 3oa for a bag of pucks, some beef Jerky and an empty cheetos bag. Let's face it, we only rebuild and climb up far enough to enjoy the fall back. Let's skip the rebuild, and stay comfortably mired at the bottom. Rumor has it with expansion, we could 34th in a few years.

Just draft people I like. I’d rather watch players I like fail to win the cup than players I don’t like fail to win the cup.

With the Canucks and the Flames, drafting at 3rd and 6th, they are both getting good players. There isn't going to be much difference between 3 and 7 in this draft.

Apparently, Carels is recovering from a concussion. The Flames were looking into the health of one of the top draft choices and the assumption is that it is Carels. This may affect his draft status.
