Moving the #3 pick will be an easier sell to the market than moving the 1st

I saw your other post about packaging the pick with Scooter for Power…..

Power is 23. Do you think that it makes sense to go that route over drafting Verhoeff, or Reid, who will be more likely to hit NHL stride alongside any young forwards that land in the system over the next few seasons? Power will likely be late 20’s, also he’s a lefty which are easier to come by.

I haven’t watched Power play, just looked at his numbers, which neither over nor underwhelm. Is he beast mode enough to make it worth passing on the youngers?

I’d have to go diving through puckpedia archives. Probably nobody in a straight across. But if rebuilding was the avenue, then it could’ve been made to work with retention and cast-off returns.

Again, I do agree, maximize the return and don’t hold tightly to the “both or neither”.

If this organization actually had managed to execute a plan then I would say that a lesser return in order to keep Vancouver as a player’s destination would be worthwhile. History being the ultimate decider, the Aquanuck trainwreck says it all. Time to just go full Vegas and treat it as a business from your best player to your lowest prospect and pick.

While I don’t see McKenna as being on that generational level, he does fit Toronto because they will think he is.

If we are taking the Rucks late in the first round and they have had anywhere near the career the Sedins put together this is a problem I'd be willing to deal with years down the road.

Realistically they will be 3rd potentially 2nd line players, likely not to have the contracts the Sedins had. Which would make them easier to move later in their career if needed, it also means they are unlikely to have the trade protection top end talent has late in their NHL career.

Expectations of later first round picks are much lower so the risk of being tied to twins is also less. Makes it far more palatable in my mind anyways.

I agree, but don't count out the propensity of Ownership to draft based on marketing potential. I called the Jett Woo pick on that basis -- perhaps my only successful hockey prediction ever.

Until the draft actually happens, I will dare to hope that Ownership has learned its lesson, but they really don't seem like the lesson-learning types.

It's a dog and pony show seen far too often in big money or politics. Perhaps one day technologies like smart contracts will create verifiable proof of results in such matters including elections. A lot of people loudly proclaim that it's not rigged. But Toronto winning hints at something being awry. Of course the leaves won right?
