Speaking of ex Canucks in that game Elias Lindholm has 43 points in 58 games playing 18 minutes a night while sporting a 55 plus % f/o success rate.

Only 50 blocked shots though.

For what it's worth, JR tried to keep him and was willing to give whatever Zaddy wanted.

https://canucksarmy.com/news/rutherford ... ree-agency
At the end, Zadorov was talking close with Tocchet while Patrik [Allvin] was talking to his agent. Tocchet would ask him ‘what’s it going to take to keep you here.’ And Zadorov said he had to get his contract to US$5-million [annually] and then he’d be set. So we got him to US$5-million. But then there was still no deal.

So, Rick said to him ‘what’s going on?’ And then he said: ‘Well if I can get to six years then I’ll stay.’ Same process. We said okay. So twice in that process he said give me that one more thing and I’ll stay and then we give it to him and then he goes to Boston.

Some quotes from Quinn Hughes from today's The Athletic article as he reflects on his time with the Canucks:

“I’d see stuff like ‘He doesn’t care anymore,’” Hughes said, bringing up the criticism he’s faced from Canucks fans unprompted, “but go watch my last game against Buffalo and you tell me that I didn’t care.

“If you want to blame me for over-trying, for overdoing it, then honestly, I’m good with it.

“A couple of years ago, that sort of stuff would’ve bothered me, but it doesn’t now. I’m the one that looks at myself in the mirror, and I’m good with everything I’ve done. I’m at peace with everything.

“I know I gave everything I had in Vancouver. Go look at the years prior, too, when there was all sorts of nonsense going on, and I know I was always doing everything I could to make sure my game was in a good place and elevating it for the team. I tried to do that again this year. I had a great summer, and it just didn’t happen.”

“It’s hard coming back after the Olympics,” Hughes, who has typically been narrowly focused on his day-to-day routine, said of how these unbelievable moments have stacked up for him this season. “You’re just on such a high emotionally. You’re playing Canada in the gold medal game one day, and then you’re playing against some random team on Tuesday, but I think everybody goes through that.

“You can’t really sit back and look at everything that’s happened, because you’re always playing a game either today or the next day. I haven’t had time to process it. I’m looking forward to enjoying some stuff this summer and taking time at the end of the season, but right now I’m still focused on what’s next. I mean, (with the playoffs approaching) I feel like we’re going to go to war in two weeks. Right now I’m just focused on that.

“I think the Olympics (were) the most fun three weeks ever. Just being around great players and the respect that great players have for each other. Here, the guys are great, I think we have a great team, it’s a great city and a great hockey market. It’s really exciting, but we’re playing the second-best team in the league in the first round, most likely, so we’ll have to be ready to go.”

“It’s easier for me here,” Hughes said. “The way I’d explain it is that 30 minutes in Vancouver earlier this year is a lot harder than 30 minutes here right now in Minnesota. Like, (in Vancouver) I felt (that) to create something, I had to break it out, I had to do the zone entry. Reflecting on it, I was probably just overtaxed and overworking.”

“I think it’s almost better (that way),” Hughes said.

“Like if I’d had dinner with my former teammates (last night), I’d have had to think about it. It would’ve set in that this is going to be weird. Instead, I’m just jumping into the deep end.

“And it’s not like they’re dead,” Hughes added, flipping into his customary blunt tone. “Filip (Hronek) is getting married this summer, so I’ll go see him. Maybe Brock too, I don’t know what his plans are, but I’ll be there for his wedding too, whenever it is. I’ll always have those relationships.”

“I obviously have my thoughts on it, but I don’t want to point fingers at anyone,” Hughes said Thursday, when that question was put to him.

“I would say that the trade last year with J.T. Miller, I mean, he was a top-five player for us the year prior. He had (103) points, PK, power play, taking defensive-zone draws. He had (103) points, and it wasn’t accomplished by cheating all the time; he had (103) points playing the right way. There were nights I’d watch him and just think, ‘This guy is unbelievable.’

“To lose that guy the very next year … that was probably a fracture of everything. And yet, on some level, it felt like you could see it coming for years, I would say.

“It just didn’t work out, whatever the reason was. I don’t really know. We had a great team two years ago. I thought Rick (Tocchet) did a great job, Adam Foote did a great job. Thatcher Demko being injured hurt, big time.

“Then across two years, we lose Nikita Zadorov, Elias Lindholm, Miller, me, I guess Conor Garland, and Tyler Myers too. Even Carson Soucy and Dakota Joshua. It’s a lot of guys to replace in two years. It just didn’t happen for us.

“(Looking back at 2024), I think it felt easy that season. Like, I feel like this team in Minnesota is unbelievable, but that team in Vancouver had 50 wins. We’re not going to get to 50 wins this season here; it’s literally not even possible at this point.

“It felt in that month of January (in 2024) like we were just going to win no matter what. We were just rolling. Even then, I would say, it was just always fractured at times.”

Thanks for sharing. More candid then I was expecting which is so refreshing.

Seems like a fair account and clearly that one year is special to him (holding it in higher regard than his current team). I wonder if he will stay in Minnesota or move on. My gut tells me he at least explores free agency even if he ultimately signs with Minnesota.

Personal bias aside, the Hughes trade is good for the NHL. The league is too boring and predictable and there isn't enough movement of marquee players. It's getting boring having players never reach free agency or no major trades.

Certainly sounds like not being able to keep Zadorov and trading Miller were last straws a for him. Reads like he would have preferred we moved on from Pettersson and found a way to keep the aforementioned and Lindholm.

I wonder if management feels the same way now. Seems most fans do.

Only question is did he tell us that for free??

Nothing really revealing or anything we didn't already know or could've guessed. Wonder though if the biggest reason he squirmed out may be revealed this summer whether he inks or not.

Gotta say I'm loving the trade so far. I mean Zeev and Liam alone, great starting point for the RB. The other two pieces are bonuses, especially if Marco continues to play well and nets future pieces down the road. That's not to say I'm letting TFG™ off the hook, still pissed they didn't even try to press for more. They can maybe learn a thing or two from the GM just east of the Rockies from us.

Quinn, one of the two most dynamic and skilled players in team history, would still be here if competent management had done their job.

The stand pat status quo with middling talent while shipping out guys with skill and heart has been abysmal.

No problem. As far as his signing goes, I have a feeling it won't be hard for them to sign him. They've got everything he could reasonably hope for there. I think the brothers reunited thing was a little overblown.
