That’s what I mean, you can’t leave the responsibility of trading Hughes in the hands of those who caused the situation. That’s rewarding failure.Megaterio Llamas wrote: ↑Thu Dec 11, 2025 10:38 amDrance was just on with D&D and I thought he covered the bases well on this story. Rick Dhaliwal said this morning there were multiple people in the Canucks organization who didn’t want to sign Elias Pettersson to his huge contract in 2024, ultimately Jim Rutherford made the final call.
Jim is on his last legs. The clock is on.

Florida is a better team than the Canucks and playing in the East but are currently out of a playoff spot even after winning their last 3 games...Chef Boi RD wrote: ↑Thu Dec 11, 2025 10:39 amHow is Florida doing without Barkov (done for the season and never played a game this season) and Tkachuk, who hasn’t played this season? Then all of the doom and gloom disappeared as they got giggly thinking about what the return for Quinn Hughes will be from each of the multitude of teams who will make an offer...
But isn't that the point, with most if not all of the league salavating at the chance to aquire Quinn it won't take a Hall of Fame, multiple Cup winning executive to secure a significant haul for him which makes the Jack Gordon reference kinda goofy...

Well the story about a potential trade to Carolina goes that the AVS stepped in and offered What’s his name the headhunter. Carolina went that route. So the Pettersson deal may have been killed by the Canes. As for his massive contract, ya a bit much. Ok more than a bit.

Re: Ownership and Management
If by "the headhunter" you mean Rantanen, that deal was at last TDL.....the Canes offer was the season before (allegedly). Nobody was offering anything for Pettersson last year at the TDL.Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Thu Dec 11, 2025 4:56 pm Well the story about a potential trade to Carolina goes that the AVS stepped in and offered What’s his name the headhunter. Do you recall how you felt about the Neely trade at the time? The main issue with Neely was that his coach, Tom Watt, didn't like him. As a scrappy hometown kid, however, he was very popular with the fans.rikster wrote: ↑Thu Dec 11, 2025 5:13 pmFrom what I remember that was more of a Virtanen type of deal with concerns over Neely's off ice habits...Megaterio Llamas wrote: ↑Thu Dec 11, 2025 5:08 pmDo you recall how you felt about the Neely trade at the time? Fan reaction to the trade at the time was quite optimistic, or glass-half-full if you like.

Close. Rantanen was traded to Carolina Jan 2025 then traded again to Dallas at the 2025 TDD.Mëds wrote: ↑Thu Dec 11, 2025 5:02 pmIf by "the headhunter" you mean Rantanen, that deal was at last TDL.....the Canes offer was the season before (allegedly). Canucks and Canes had a deal close. Canucks were using it as leverage against Pettersson to get him to commit before the 2024 TDD. Canes were trying to land someone else and rumour has it it was Rantenan. Avs were not ready to trade him until the following Jan. They had still hoped to come to terms.
I don’t know what is true.

The rumoured trade with Carolina for Pettersson was in 2024, which as you said was before he signed his extension and was being used as leverage.
There was no trade for Pettersson on the table at the 2025 TDL.

Re: Ownership and Management
Florida has played the entire season without their two best players, who arguably are in the top 10’of the best forwards in the league. How would the Canucks fair without having the services of their best two players this season - Pettersson and Hughes? Would they be worst than 32nd overall in the league? Well, can’t get much worse than that, obviously, but certainly the affect of their absence would be felt in the win/loss column.rikster wrote: ↑Thu Dec 11, 2025 1:57 pmFlorida is a better team than the Canucks and playing in the East but are currently out of a playoff spot even after winning their last 3 games...Chef Boi RD wrote: ↑Thu Dec 11, 2025 10:39 amHow is Florida doing without Barkov (done for the season and never played a game this season) and Tkachuk, who hasn’t played this season?
