Blob Mckenzie wrote: Mon Nov 24, 2025 11:16 am Dude I think everyone is aware of how you feel. I for one would like to see a rapid rebuild that I could see them having a competitive team by 27/28 if executed properly. Don't tear it down to the studs. But trade our best player and a handul of other pieces this season for a heavy dose of picks and prospects with the idea of eating a cap dump if needed. I'm not turning this into a if Hughes wants out or not. There's enough threads for that.

They need a quick pivot. The sooner the better. Im just putting hypotheticals out there and if the mods want to move it he trade rumor thread so be it. It pertains to management and ownership because Fredo farted at Gary Mason last week. 'It might be time to rebuild in someway, perhaps not with current management'. Was the gist I got of it. Brown Cherry is burping out similar sentiments and both are conduits of Rutherford and Franscesco.

Hughes should be dealt no later than Sept 14. But if someone offered me the moon now, I'd take it. He's a top 5 player in the game.

Hughes to San Jose for Misa, 1st, 2nd, player x
Hughes to Anaheim for Mcqueen, 1st, Mintyukov
Hughes to Carolina for Nikisn and Svechnikov
Hughes to Hawks for Frondell, Korshinsky +salary
Hughes to Flyers for Mickhov or Martone, Bonk, Alex Bump, +
decent player
Hughes and Hoggy to Devils for Selayev, Mercer, 1st, two 2nds, John Mustard and a carcass. I have not gotten into possible returns from Seattle, Detroit or Utah, but Detroit would have to oart with Red Savage in any case.

My valuations are imho accuste. You aren't getting back a Fantilli, Cooley, Leo, Smith or either of Celebrini or Bedard. Set Quinn free.

Sherwood for a late 1st.

DOC for a 2nd.

Forbort for a 4th

Blueger for a 3rd

Keep the guts of the team and FH can run a solid PP wth EP40. Draft 6 times in the top 64. Another down year next year but promise the year after. Foote was set up to fail. Best tank commander since Willy. He doesn't dance, wear a Cowichan sweater on the bench or rock a poppie in Frebuary, or have a coffee cup that says "World's" Greatest Coach".... no mustache rides for folks, but I for one salute Captain Foote.

**Edit** the top 5 is wicked this year. Mckenna, Ivar, Veerhoff, the Belcher or Lawrence are sick building blocks. Get ajother top 10 pick in 2027 and this could be tidy with good managemen and the OEL poison being reduced a half dose.
I respectfully disagree with this post (not trolling). Dumping those 5-6/guys (even if you get those returns) is the definition of gutting the team.

Hughes type players are once in a generation, and he will dominate for the next 5-7 years.

Now, if he is not signed by sept 14, then ok, ship him.
The 'Chain of Command' is the chain I am going to beat you with until you understand I am in charge.

Hughes dictates the situation, we are only entertaining the idea of trading him if he chooses to go to market. We are not trading him because we want to rebuild, let’s be clear about that. He’s the best defenceman this organization has ever had. He’s our best player, and top 5 best player in the game, of course we all want to keep him.

Our struggle is, if this team continues to shit the bed, does this give Hughes pause on whether he wants to stay here? I’m 50/50 with regards to what Quinn wants. One half tells me he likes it here, likes the organization and would like to stay, the other half says no, he wants out but is too classy and a pro to give any indication of that.

I think it starts with the architects of this mess being shown the door and Francesco Aquilini hiring a consultant to bring in a new team to launch the process.

I’m really not a fan of the overall job Allvin and Rutherford have done here. In fact I think it’s been a shit show. People will tell you, “but Rutherford is a hockey god!” I suggest looking up Ken Holland’s career since Nick Lidstrom and Pavel Datsyuk retired.

They've had their chance and JR has got to be ready to re retire soon.
If Quinn decides to leave then a fresh management team should be brought in to build the next version of the Canucks.
If they can persuade QH to stay then maybe carry on as is.

If we are put in the position to having to trade Hughes, a generational Norris winning defenceman, the blame falls squarely on Rutherford and Allvin and is grounds for dismissal. I certainly would not want them commandeering the rebuild that would follow next, in fact, I’d fire them and bring in a new pair of eyes and vision to deal with the Hughes fiasco. I certainly do not want these two dingbats working the Hughes trade, if it ever comes to that.

If Hughes signs, the course is set and the slog continues hoping management can strike gold somewhere in drafting and free agency. The hope is that Hughes makes a lot of things possible even with a forward group that has a mediocre floor.

If Hughes wants to stay, the numbers will match quickly. If he doesn't sign in Vancouver, it won't be for want of money or term.

At what point does management give Quinn a deadline to commit? Would issuing such a deadline negatively influence the outcome? What's the wisdom of not issuing a deadline?

Management cannot let him pull a Gaudreau, so when do they pull the trigger?

It would be an absolute devastation to this organization if they let Hughes walk like the Flames did walking Gaudreau to July 2st. Business is business, they need to do the right thing with an asset like Hughes and maximize the return. It’s time this organization to stop doing stupid things, or doing stupid things that could’ve been avoided.

I will preface this by saying: I don’t want Quinn Hughes to leave the Canucks.

That being said. If the Canucks have to trade him, I think trade him at or before this season’s trade deadline. If I am not mistaken, he has no trade protection and can be dealt to any team. The Canucks should be able to then maximize their return in a Hughes trade which should allow them to do a mini rebuild/retool.

However, like others have said, I don’t have faith in this management group pulling this off or ownership being able to give them the space they need to make the right ‘hockey decision.’

Obviously. But why would they do this?

Your beef with Ken Holland is disturbing. Look at Detroits drafting from 1990 when he became head of amateur scouting till 2018 when he turned the reigns over to Steve Yzerman. 4 cups, model franchise and how many other cup appearances over his career, including Edmonton in 2024. Yet you think he drafted Zetterburg and Datsyuk by fluke makes a man want to puke.

If you can barf out some of your hatorade, have a ganders at Detroit's drafting record from 1990 - 2018, listen to a youtube interview or three about how players felt about the guy. Olympic Gold, World Cup, an outstanding interview and ambassador for the game, but you hate his guts because of what..... his birth certificate?

I said after Lidstrom and Datsyuk faded out. Holland had a good run yes, was the architect of the golden age of the Yzerman/Lidstrom/Datsuk Wings but he has been a bum since Lidstrom and Datsyuk aged out.

Once a great GM doesn’t mean always a great GM. Because Rutherford has done some good things in the past doesn’t mean he isn’t capable of shitting the bed which is clearly what he has done here. Not sure how you can give him the thumbs up on a job well done here, it’s been far from it.
