Kravtsov was a flyer of flyers. I agree with Widow in that it's a no-cost move, unless you want to count opportunity cost - but even then, his salary was paltry. Every team does it from time to time.donlever wrote: ↑Tue Nov 04, 2025 11:39 am I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with all y'all.
Neutral moves on retreads we've been down the road with once already on the heels of last years Management shit show equate to failure.
If I hire a gumby, and he proves to indeed be a gumby and I shit can him for being a gumby that's on him.
If I hire him back thinking maybe he's not a gumby anymore and he's still a gumby that ends up in negative roi that's on me.
Kravstov quacks.
Dude is a duck.
Not every KHL signing is going to be a Kuzmenko story, but that doesn't mean the others should be deemed moves that set those clubs back - unless they tied significant cap and term to it. Kravtsov's contract is as expendable as they come. I'm not sure what other UFAs of his type would have done better.
Meh... enjoy Mother Russia, kid. Hope you don't wind up in an Assault Platoon outside Pokrovsk before you know it.

Let me go at this from another off the cuff, shits and giggles direction
NHL Managment is a 24/7/365 endeavor.
Guys have to eat, sleep and diddle the old lady (ok maybe not JR) so let's presume, for sake of argument, they are on task 100 hours a week.
If JR, PA, the contracts team, coaches, trainers spent, again let's throw a number out there for fun, 300 hours on this guy and we base that on 100 hour work weeks the Canucks wasted potentially 3 weeks of time as well as cash money on an employee EVERY FAN on this board could have told them was a waste of time.
Which means they aren't spending that 3 weeks on something that is not a previously attempted, doomed to fail retread.
He's a duck.....
I have no issue with swinging for fences or throwing shit at walls to see if it sticks.
You have to take chances to create large successes.
But when you pick the shit up, walk it back to the other side of the room and throw it again knowing it isn't going to stick.
Well then that's a waste of time and money.
Especially when it is duck shit.

Imagine the Orca Bay HR person picking up the form on her desk and going, "WTF is this? Didn't we already deactivate his security badge and shred all of his paperwork?"

Good teams need a couple of 'found-money' or 'diamond-in-the-rough' acquisitions. The 2011 team had Burrows and 1994 had (to a lesser extent) Lafayette. I get it that Kravtsov had low odds of being such a player. It's a good argument to get the cheap wop to cough up resources for better pro-scouting.donlever wrote: ↑Tue Nov 04, 2025 12:45 pm

Yup. The Rus who controlled the waterways between the Baltic and the Black Sea were Swedish vikings from an area known as Roslagen, just north of Stockholm. Their main cities were Novgorod Staraja Lagoda and Kiev. The Kievan Rus became quite powerful and were an important part of the formation of both Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. Two of those countries are even named for them.Lancer wrote: ↑Tue Nov 04, 2025 5:59 am IIRC, Scandinavians have connections with that neck of the woods since vikings sailed down the Volga on the regular. On the topic of cabbage rolls and Eastern European cuisine, I have to say it's underrated. Surprised the Swedes didn't pick up on Shashlik along the way.

Kravtsov set to sign a 3 year deal back in the KHL. This was apparently a mutual decision to terminate his contract. When he signed with the Canucks it was agreed that if he did not make the NHL the Canucks would terminate to allow him to return to Russia. He was given plenty of opportunity in Abbotsford to find his NHL game but could not do it so both sides agreed the experiment was over. Again, I just dont see this as a bad move by the Canucks.
The only HW the Canucks need

Yeah its amazing how I got dogpiled on for bitching when we traded legit high picks and high end prospects for scrubs between 2014 and 2021. Now people are enraged about dealing 7th rounders and 4th rounders to fill the age gap that was here. Age gap. LOL!!! FWIW I wouldnt have made either trade for the Russian or the German. But I as on an island screaming about pissing away McCann and a 2nd for a 6/7 man, Forsling for an ankle skater, a 2nd for Vey etc. Where is Island Nucklehead whn I need az high five.Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Tue Nov 04, 2025 10:26 am I think it was a low risk move to see if the kid could play in the NHL after a pretty good return to the KHL. At least it wasn't a 5x5 type of deal. I also think he agreed to return on the promise that if he didn't make the Canucks they would try to trade him to another team to give him a shot, or terminate his contract somehow so he could return to the Mother land. I remember reading somewhere that that was the plan. He wouldn't stay a full season and stay in the AHL.
Too bad really. Abbey is hurting right now and he could not even take advantage of his opportunities there to showcase himself for other NHL teams.
The "Baldies" sure take a ton of shit for 3 1/2 years of being on the job. Should they get 7 plus years to fucks things up even worse?
