Sure, but Tkachuk was ranked higher - if someone falls to you in the draft, you take em. BPA.
I suspect the Canucks management group were smelling character flaws that might indicate a propensity to bolt for sunny shores the first chance he got!
Character flaws? You mean like he wasn't a nice guy like Linden?

I have no doubt M. Tkachuk would’ve bolted for America if we had drafted him. The Tkachuk’s are red white and blue to the bone. I’d be surprised if Brady stays a Senator for long. But at least, ifvwe had drafted Matthew we would’ve gotten some kind of asset in return. Or would we?

Also, it wasn’t just the Canucks who had Juolevi as high as we did. The Flames were prepared to draft Juolevi after us. Also, the Canucks had just drafted two wingers in the previous two first rounds prior to 2016. Plus most everyone agreed with the pick. The last time we drafted a defenceman in the first round prior to 2016 was on Luc Bourdon way back.

Yeah, Jello Bud, Chef disagrees with you big time. The heart of that Devils cup winning line up in 2003 was defence and goaltending, as it always was. I will even go as far as saying our current forward group with the best version of Pettersson can match that forward group. I’ll take the best version of Petey over Elias 8 days a week.

The key trifecta is:

Hughes, Hronek and Demko

Vs

Neidermeyer, Stevens and Brodeur

Unfortunately for us, the Devils win in that department. If Willander pans out as we all hope and Elias D Pettersson continues to impress, throw in M. Pettersson, the two defences “overall” could be on par with each, that is if the two kids keep impressing. Although Rafalski and Daneyko were pretty damn good.
The 2003 roster certainly didn't have the "star power" as the earlier win - but their average point totals were all mostly higher than anyone (other than Petey) on the current Canucks forward roster - and this is during the dead puck era, on a Lemaire trap-team. (Though you can argue that Toc's system isn't much better)

The proof is in the pudding Pal - they won a cup.

If the Defense/goaltending is even close to "on par" - wouldn't Vancouver at least made the playoffs?

Or are you saying we are close? Because I can get behind that :D

RE: MT - you still take him, BPA - he becomes an asset, even if he wants a trade.

Calgary got a couple of good pieces for him.

What did Van get for Olli? Tops' favorite player and Lammiko?

His dad zamboni'd TL16...that shit doesn't just go away

Linden should've relished a chance to sit in front of his bully. Walt turned into Philadelphia Collins while TL is a svelt fitness freak at age 55

Chantal is Canadian. Brady signed an eight year ticket in Ottawa. You're out to lunch.

Juolevi has the compete of an aphid. Elmo telegraphed that he was taking a D man well ahead of the draft. Sergachev, Chychrun and McEvoy were all similarly rated to Razor Thin Olaf: Elmo shit his diaper.

I know one of Chantal’s cousins on her Italian side, he lives in Vancouver. They are a very proud Canadian family out of Manitoba, however she seems to have converted to the dark side.

Not to mention the character flaw of starting shit then hiding behind the refs.

And FFS stop CONSTANTLY chewing on that mouthguard whilst grinning like a hyena!

Patting Bennett on the shoulder after that cheapshot...

The only Tkachuk I ever liked was Brady.

Hey ..... at least you are sticking with your original, poor opinion, that Vancouver picked a better player in Olaf. Dude and Danny flip flopped like seals when called out about it. Puke Stroker was much the same.

Not a poor opinion, the two players were fairly equal on paper at the time.

Who knew OJ would be derailed by injury after injury after injury...

I thought you didn't like little dinks like Matt Tkachuk?

I suspect you've been holding your nose whilst defending him all these years.

Would you have overlooked Matt Cooke's dinkiness if he put up more points?

Don't you actually hate this kind of player?

Have you turned into some kind of politician now?

What's the dealio here Boberino?

I’m not that triggered over missed draft picks, all teams have them, all teams will continue to have them. You’re drafting 18 year olds ffs. When you browse each draft year at Hockey DB, the results, over the entire history of the entry draft, you’ll be shocked by how many picks pan out (very small percentages). The bust factor is huge. I’m more triggered by the overall drafting record of a regime, for instance, Sir Michael Gillis’ legacy in his six years of drafting is absolutely horrendous, it set the organization back centuries, just awful, devastating. I don’t like thinking about it as it makes me unruly and agitated.

When it comes to individual picks? Who cares, all the GMs good and bad have them - Holland (Zadina), Blake (Turcotte). Look at the first four picks of the first round in the 2012 draft - Yakupov, Murray, Galchenyuk, Griffin Reinhart. Awful. Where’s Virtanen’s twin - Dal Colle? Where’s Juolevi’s buddy Puljujarvi?

Like every GM, Benning had his duds but when you look at his overall draft history here there are plenty of wins in which one cannot say for Gillis:

McCann
Demko
Forsling
Boeser
Gaudette
Pettersson
Hoglander
Hughes
Silovs
Podkozlin I give a mild pass as he’s still making hay.

Watched a very good interview on Bloomberg by Jason Kelly of Bloomberg and Alex Rodriguez the former baseball player with David Blitzer who has an ownership stake in a team in every professional sports league in North America including the New Jersey Devils along with ownership stakes in multiple European football teams...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Blitzer

As I listened to the interview and how economies of scale favor owners of mulitple teams across multiple sports in a number of ways which explains why hedge funds and private equity and the ultra rich and limited partnerships are the owners of pro sports teams today and the ma and pop owners like the Aqualini's are being pushed out....

So it will be interesting to see how the Aqualini's navigate the buyout of one of their partners and if they decide to just buyout Pablo or if they decide to sell a larger stake in the company and take on a big money partner rather than finance the buyout themselves which may include the need to sell off some of their other assets?...

It also begs the question if a mega rich new partner with ownership stakes in other pro sports teams like the NBA becomes a partner in the Canucks, does that open the door wider for a return of the NBA to Vancouver?

The interview might be behind a paywall..

Take care...
