A week long cold running through our neck of the woods. Hit the schools hard.

I went through pneumonia in '08 while running a drill program, didn't miss a day, but completely fucked me up. Not a lot of productivity, but the drill turned, core got logged and split, samples got off to the lab. The show must go on. A couple of hundred drill holes on that project and I can recall all of them in some detail except the ones from those six weeks. My lungs haven't been the same since.

After 4 weeks, I finally had enough strength to drive myself to the hospital, ER put an O2 meter on my finger then took me straight in past the dozen others waiting in line. Lived on can soup and 1/2 strength gaterade for over month.

And completely out of context and misleading.

When James Baker and Gorbachev were discussing German reunification, the Soviet Union still existed. The Warszaw Pact still existed.
They were only talking about Germany.

The US had troops stationed in Germany, and promised that they would not move those troops into the Eastern half after reunification.
And they didn't.

The idea that Nato would never accept new members was never discussed nor promised and has been debunked several times, including by Gorbachev himself and James Baker. The discussion referred to in the video was just about US (or Nato) troops stationed in Germany. That's all.

How could they discuss the future of nations that did not even exist at the time?
Gorbachev and Baker both thought the Soviet Union would still be around for the forseeable future.

To say that that should have any bearing on Ukraine's right as a sovereign nation 30+ years later is ludicrous.


Instead you should be concerned about the 1994 Budapest Memorandum, in which Ukraine handed over all of their nuclear weapons in exchange for gurantees from Russia that they would respect their rights as a sovereign nation within their existing borders, agreed upon in 1991, and security guarantees from the USA and the UK.

Here's the most important part:

1. The United States of America, the Russian Federation, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, reaffirm their commitment to Ukraine, in accordance with the principles of the CSCE [Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe] Final Act, to respect the Independence and Sovereignty and the existing borders of Ukraine.
2. The United States of America, the Russian Federation, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, reaffirm their obligation to refrain from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of Ukraine, and that none of their weapons will ever be used against Ukraine except in self-defense or otherwise in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations.
