The NMC is in effect until July 1. So any trade for his rights even would have to be approved by Marner. That’s all we’re saying. He can hold Toronto’s feet to the fire in hopes that they re-sign him rather than lose him for nothing.
The Leaves already have Matthews and Nylander locked up down the middle. The role open to Tavares is 3C. Do you spend $7M on your 3rd line pivot? I think that if they can get Marner to take $12M they keep him and bid adieu to Tavares. They would be stupid to do otherwise, Marner should be a productive 200 foot winger for at least another 4-5 seasons. Tavares likely transitions towards being a 3C statically in a couple of years.

Levshunov. He’s a beaut. The 2nd overall pick last year. Yeah the Blackhawks have a very solid looking future D with Levshunov, Vlasic, Kaiser and Crevier and Del Mastro. And they have Korchinski cooking in the minors. The young depth they have is why it made Jones expendable. Apparently Jones was a headcase and a problem in the room. A number of hawk players have made subtle comments in regards to his departure. The Hawks will most likely land a high end forward in the draft - Misa, Hagens, Martone, Frondell, Eklund, Desnoyers, McQueen or O’Brien. Their future looks good. Landing young netminder Spencer Knight in the Jones was a solid move.

My guts do feel like misery some times, but I’m working on eating better and boozing less. They basically have only two avenues at their disposal to improve the top 6 and I’m not talking middle six in which we have in abundance of - as you said, dealing from one of our 3 prized kids and the 2025 1st. Or tapping into this years UFA market which is a pretty sad looking group. My money is on the further depletion of the pipeline. Sadly, but I see no other coarse. They’ve annihilated the prospect pipeline to sub standard levels.

It wasn’t the greatest but they certainly are doing no better at improving it, the mandate hasn’t changed. Same old same old. They need to take a break from trading draft picks. It’s getting a bit much. The team is very thin in talent and far from being players in the post season. In their minds they honestly believe they can fast track it by trading and signing their way out of it, it’s fools gold. If managements attitude don’t change the mushy middle is where we shall remain.

“Better” can be argued. The defence has improved but the forward group is thinner than Brad Ference’s arms with only Lekkerimaki and his birdbones as our only legitimate forward prospect. Raty is the next Brendan Gaunce. The goalie situation could be in peril with Demko’s injury problems and pending UFA status after next season, will they walk him to UFA and lose him for nothing like we are about to with Boeser and Suter? The prospect will be utter garbage once Willander has graduated.

Nylander is not a centre in the NHL.
They've tried him there a couple of times over the years and he failed miserably.
Tavares is clearly their #2 centre and rumour is they are close on a $7M x 3 deal.
They were looking for a #3 centre all year and settled on Laughton at the deadline.
(Domi is horribad at centre, Kampf is a 4th liner, and they just traded Minten and Dewar)

Marner at $12.5M + Tavares at $7M = $19.5M for both.
That's less than the $22M they are paying them right now.
We need to go all in on Bennett. Yes, it will be a massive overpayment but he’s an upgrade on Boeser. I don’t like the idea of giving molasses skates Boeser a big contract.
