Not so sure about that, I don't think the team's fortunes are solely in the hands of Young Demko, thanks to the solid signing of Holtby. Holtby could easily get back to a Vezina finalist form, and save a season the same way Demko (almost) saved the post-season.

Conflicting reports on what Markstrom signed in Calgary for.
Six for six it is.

Really? They only need one d man and possibly a couple of 3rd and 4th line forwards - easily done with the cap space they have. Also, I expect a trade or two - possibly Gaudreau, so the cap space is still in flex.
There's only 4 Dmen signed, Kylington needs a new deal, and there's only one RD under contract. I don't follow closely enough to know, are any RD prospects penciled in to the NHL lineup? But even if they are, that's $2 mil in cap space for two ELC RD.

There's also only 9 NHL forwards signed, and I was fairly sure there aren't any forwards on the farm penciled in to graduate to the Bigs. Maybe one ELC player rotates is as the 13th/14th forward?

That's a lot of bodies to find, and not a lot of money.
Apparently, they have about $16 million in cap space at the moment. They have all their top line guys signed. They will bring up a few bodies from the minors to fill some spots in the bottom 6 forwards. They will probably make some trades, ie - Gaudreau. So I'm sure they will be just fine when it comes to cap space. They only need one D man, and he would be a bottom pairing D man, so not expensive.

Friedman is now saying Markstrom to Calgary is done. No info on contract yet.

He now says: 6 x 6 for Markstrom.

Yup, 6 x 6.

Love what Marky did for us the last few years, but... good luck in Cowtown.

Hope to see the vintage Panthers/AHL version when we meet, with a sprinkling of the classic Under Arm(or) goals you were known for.

I hope management is quietly giving Ian Clark a raise. He's the real magic.

Are there already some Flames fans out there on the interwebz who are saying it's a bit too rich in term and that the last 3 years are going to hurt? Hey, that's the nature of UFAs, right? You always overpay and almost always regret the later years.

Hope JB remembers the burn marks and the bashing and continues to keep drafting and development.

..... and the mongoloids go wild paying full freight for Marky.

Too bad, it was fun watching them squirming and wondering if they will miss out. Dragging it to the next day would be so funny.

Good for you Marky, you got your pay day. Just don't play too well when we play you alright? ;)

Markström to Flames and Lundqvist to Capitals.

Don't know if there was any chance of losing Demko to expansion but I would've lost my shit if we did, now we don't have to worry about that anymore. If we signed Marky we would've lost him regardless, one way or another. Moving forward I wanted to go with Demko all along over Marky even though he's more unproven. Yeah those 3 playoff games could prove to be a mirage, there's that chance for sure, but what if it's not a mirage and he took that elsewhere? His game reminded me of Jonathan Quick who was an absolute weapon in the King's two Cups. I remember watching him and thinking I've rarely seen a goalie battle for every save the way he did as if the next goal was a game winner and he did it consistently one game to the next. Demko's games against Vegas were exactly like that. He's also on a similar trajectory in that Quick got his starting job at 24 (and won Cups at 26 and 28 *wink wink*) so let's all hope he can be the next J.Quick to our future playoff success.

And to use the J.Quick analogy once more when talking about Markstrom, he's 34 now and just shadow of his former self. Not that I wish ill will toward Marky, good guy wish him well, but he's locked in for 6 years with NMC so if his game starts to slide in a few years we would've been fucked, especially without Demko. Other than Marky staying in the Division, imo today is a win win in terms of our goaltending outlook and cap management.

three years, $3.9 M AAV for Shattenkirk in Anaheim
12:10 PM · Oct 9, 2020·
31 years old and a terrible last couple of years. Ya! Tanev will be in demand. I remember him saying after the playoffs, probably out of emotion" that all he wanted was to stay with Vancouver.
Who was terrible? Shattenkirk? Did you watch the playoffs after the Canucks lost? He was very good.

The Rangers wanted Shattenkirk to be to a #1 in all situations guy, and signed him to a big contract in 2017. He wasn't that, and the result he was a major disappointment, but largely because of fact that he failed expectations and absorbed a ton of cap on a team that was hoping he was the missing piece. Rather than being the missing piece, the Rangers went from playoff regular with a couple of decent runs to missing the playoffs both years they had KS. And they bought him out, fully committed to a rebuild and roster turnover, and so they could do things like sign the biggest UFA last year and make the biggest trade and sign deal. (Panarin/Trouba).

In Anaheim, he's going to be a second pairing guy, maybe be on the 2d PP. Someone who does that effectively is worth that salary, and if Shattenkirk plays like he did this season, he'll do it plenty effectively.

When Markstrom gets into a bad funk how did he get out of it????

Yes, he worked extra time with Ian Clark. So when he starts letting in the first shot of the game for the 5th consecutive game and the boo birds come out in Calgary who will Marky turn too now??
