I wonder what the fucking hold up is? Benning seems to be in a bind. Markstom? OEL? Markstrom should have been signed already. Looks like he’s going to market.
Could be Loui refusing to wave his NTC to AZ (think he has a NTC now).
Could be Benning trying to make the match work.
Could be AZ not happy with the return and not pulling the trigger.
People need to remember, just because a guy hits Free Agency, doesn’t mean he can’t sign here.
Stetcher hits FA, and then resigns here for less than he was making. No qualifier, No potential arbitration. Heck, there could already be a ‘this is our offer, chat next week’ conversation. I actually expected this with Virtanen. I think we qualified him in case we can’t get something done with Toffoli.

Agree, I thought the same. Also thought he could be part of a OEL trade package too.

I’d venture a guess the hold up is Benning not agreeing to Demko and trying to lowball them.
Could be a chicken race. OEL has said the offer only stands till Friday. Then he goes back to a strict NMC.
Either that or he wants ink on paper regarding Markström before agreeing to the deal.

Meh. They get through the draft before they make a decision on OEL.
With our cap situation, and the Lads unsigned (as in we don’t have a fixed cost on them yet), I can’t see how we get OEL and make him fit in years 2-6 and still have the depth to be competitive.
I get that some are in win now mode, but we are not quite done the rebuild. Just on the upswing.
This year is a holding pattern while shit contracts flush. If we do it right, 2022 is the first year of a few years of contention for us.

If, and that is a big if, Benning knows for sure Marky will sign (contract already in place), I would probably do that deal but force them to accept another dead weight contract.
Demko, Loui, Stretcher, 1st + their choice of Sutter/Baer/Beagle for OEL and a mid round pick.
As said, I would do that deal if there is a deal already in place for Marky. If they are giving up a first AND Demko, they have to have AZ agree to take on more dead weight contracts.
That's a good point, clear out another contract that will affect the Big Renewals next year.
Roussel and Beagle are both $4.4 mil in real dollars remaining, with a $6 mil cap hit, might also appeal to the coyotes.
If they can stick one of them with Loui, that alone will pay for Petersson's contract.
I think next year's cap space is more valuable than moving Sutter or Baertschi.
Strong rumours the Oilers are going hard after Markstrom. The Moj on 1040 went as far as saying the deal with the Oilers is close to being done

Considering free agency starts in two days, that sure is interesting

I guess my wording is off but apparently the Oilers have a serious offer they will be tabling. Flames and Avalanche as well but apparently the Oilers will be throwing everything at Markstrom. You honestly think Teams aren’t sliding little notes with numbers scribbled to agents of players on other teams? C’mon Blob what rock are you sleeping under?
