The reason that it is called the Spanish flu is because Spain was not participating in WW1. There was a flu outbreak all over the continent, but the warring nations kept a lid on it, so there were no reports in the media, but as Spain was not at war, their media reported about the flu, and so it became known as the Spanish flu.

With the same reasoning, Chernobyl was a Swedish disaster. It was a Swedish nuclear powerplant that sounded the alarm that radiation levels were increasing outside the plant for some unknown reason. The Russians kept quiet.

I wonder if the lesson learned from all this embarassing shortage of the most basic medical PPE will be developed countries returning to the manufacturing of life saving essentials domestically and ending the reliance on china to make everything.
